I only own two autoloading .22LR pistols, both Rugers. Of the two (Mark II Target and Mark III Hunter, both stainless), I have to favor the MKIII Hunter. I love the wood grips, fluted barrel, and sweet trigger pull.
Mark III 22/45. 5" barrel model. I like the Ruger action and the 1911 grip angle makes it fit my hand well. Removed the mag disconnect and modified the last shot hold open so I can "slingshot" it. Perfect .22 pistol now, IMO.
I had a Ruger MKI - not bad, accurate, never jammed. The trigger always seemed "mushy" though.
The current 22 is an older Hi Standard Victor. A bit picky about ammo, magazines and tuning but a sweet shooter.
ruger 22/45. its a great target gun, very accurate.
iv since replaced all the internals with volquartsen .the volquartsen upgrades costed abit but was well woth it, the stock trigger was just fine but now its just amazing. id love to know the pull weight on it cause it cant be more then 2#.
My second .22 handgun I got is my S&W 422. A year or so later I came across one of the 4.5 inch barrel all stainless 2206. These two are my core. I've got a few others but the S&W's are my go to .22 guns for matches.
This may change a little as I recently tripped over some sort of clearance pricing on a Ruger 22/45. The nicer version with the separate grip slabs. So it HAD to come home with me. I've shot Rugers before and enjoyed them. But the time was never quite right. Now I've got one of Bill's defining designs in my collection. The first couple of shooting sessions show that it's certainly a keeper. I still love my S&W's but they'll have to make a bit of room to welcome the new Ruger since I doubt it's going anyplace.
with exception of a Ruger Mk1 back in the 70's, Ive never had a .22 auto that worked/feed reliable enough to be worth a darn.. Therefore my answer would be Ruger Single Six.
The Ruger is the best quality and most accurate. It is a high quality gun. Will outlast me. The Colt/Umarex is the most fun though. It is accurate enough for plinking. Time will tell how it will hold up. The Beretta is a neat gun. I have only had it for a month or so and have only put 250 (trouble free) rounds through it. Not enough time to really make a recommendation.
* The best I have is a Colt Woodsman Match Target, but these are pretty expensive these days.
* Almost as good is my Browning Buckmark Field 5.5 which has an excellent trigger, as is reasonably priced too.
* The Beretta NEOS is a bargain. Not as nice as the other two but competent and cheap.
* I've got a S&W 622, that shoots pretty well. Good gun but not a favorite.
* for fun I shoot a Daewoo DP52, a Walther PPK/S, a Bersa T22, none though are really match quality.
I have two Ruger Mark II Targets and they are good, solid guns. But if you really want to know my favorite, it's my old Hamden-made High Standard Victors and Trophies. There's no comparison between them and the Rugers. MUCH better guns and they also have a completely unique look and feel like nothing else that is currently offered. They've got style and class!
