I was looking for some aa1680 to get supplies together for reloading 300 blk subsonic and it seems like that powder is gone. Anyone know of a good substitution for it?

AA5744 is very close to AA1680 and will probably work well in it's place. I'm not sure if the same accuracy can be achieved with it but you can try it. I think on the slightly slower side 4198 will be close to AA1680 and might be an even better choice than AA5744 although AA5744 is very close to AA1680.

I used to use 4198 in my 45-70 ammo until I gave AA5744 a try. I rarely stop using a time tested powder in favor of a new one but I think I will be making an exception with AA5744 in the 45-70.

AA 5744 is quite bulky compared to AA 1680.
Yeah, I forgot about that. Are you thinking it's too bulky to get enough powder in the case to achieve normal velocities. I completely forgot that powder was designed bulky for use in former black powder cases although that's why I decided to give it a try in the 45-70. I hate getting old!!!

I do not know. How full is the case with a the proper charge of 1680 in this application? If it is fairly full, I doubt it. I am guessing 5744 could be up to 4 times bulkier for a given weight than 1680.

Midway and Natchez has it in stock.
thanks. hadn't checked those 2. natchezss is out of 8lb jugs, and midway is kind of a pain because they hit you with 2 hazmat fee's. i'll probably just wait until it comes back in stock other places. or maybe just try to get enough of my buddies that need powder to make an order from midway

Check around for surplus 1680,ibought an 8 lb bottle from an outfit in arizona several years ago. It's sold under WW 680.
