Educate me: .45 pistols in $400-$600 range

Ruger P345 comes to mind. I like mine a lot, but it is my only non 1911 .45acp these days. A good shooter that I love to shoot! Price used was very reasonable.

At the price point range you've specified, three come to mind: Glock, Springfield Armory XD/XDm-45s, and Smith & Wesson M&P-45.

The Glocks and M&Ps can be procured with night sights for under 600 bucks; the SAs, without night sights, for under 600. All can be had in service size (4.25" barrel to 4.5" barrel), compacts and sub-compacts.

My department issue is the S&W M&P; I'm somewhat of a fan of this platform (ergonomics are excellent, trigger pull is consistently pretty good, reliablity is stellar and acccuracy is much above average for a polymer-framed service pistol). I also really like the XD-M in .45 -- doesn't feel quite as good to me as the M&P, but gotta love the high mag capacity.

No experience with Glocks in .45, but my experience with the 19 and 23 in 9 and .40 lead me to believe any Glock in .45 should be worthy of consideration.

I would sniff around for a used G-20.

If a G-20 is referring to a Glock 20 that is a 10mm not a 45 ACP. A glock 21 is a .45 ACP.

At any rate, a glock, while a good gun, doesn't meet #3 on the OP's wants list.

An FNX-45 would meet #3 as well as the others. A used Sig P220 might as well.

If you're talking new, then I would say the Ruger P345, Glock Model 21, SA XD, and the CZ 97 B could be had in that price range.

How about a Stoeger Cougar in .45? If you're not familiar, Stoeger is a subsidiary of Beretta. So the Stoeger Cougar is the old Beretta Cougar, it's just made in Turkey on Beretta's equipment. This is a fine gun, in my opinion, and sells new for $450 at Bass Pro and probably other places. It's not a poly pistol. Don't be afraid of the Stoeger name. The same gun with Beretta on the side would cost $150 more. It's a steal.

An FNP 45.
1. My FNP 45 has been 100% reliable with every ammo except WWB.
2. It is a full size gun. Holds 14-15 rounds depending on which mags you get.
3. SA/DA trigger. Its a decent trigger
4. You can get them new with 3 mags in the $500-$600 range.

Jump out there and get a Hi-Point if you want it in the bedside table or for the range. It is SAO but I bought one at a gun show for $139 NIB and it has NEVER had a FTF. It is butt ugly and heavy but it goes bang and has excellent sights. Accuracy will surprise you for a $150 gun. It meets all your criteria but is not what many officionados will suggest.
I bought a Stoeger at Academy for $449.99 a couple of months ago and have been happy with it also. I never carry a pistol other than my pocket guns and these don't work for that.

Glocks and RIA 1911s come to mind.

I'll throw in a plug for the Beretta PX4 in .45. A very nice shooter.

+1 for FN 45's
My FNP45 has been top notch, the only problem I've had was with WWB. After some measuring I found that it was due to rounds that were very close to max OAL spec, the mags are a little tight on there tolerances. But if you have any problem I've heard that FN will swap you out with some new mags that work better with the WWB, I just seated the bullet in mine down to 1.270".
Solid gun

Well we might differ on opinions with the trigger, but I just put a Sig p250 compact in 45 on layaway. I am a revolver fan at heart so the long DOA trigger pull is good to me. It fits all your other qualifications

My Glock 30 was in that price range.

Where can I get one for $600? If you are going to toss the price restriction then why not an HK45. I would greatly prefer that to the USP. It is in essence an improved USP.

It seems like most people responding just skipped all the OP's criteria and stated a gun that they happen to like.

I've seen used USP45s (also SIG P220s) in the 5-ish to 6-ish range. Not often but it happens.

"Out the door" is another matter. In Kalifornistan we tack on a $25 fee and 8% sales tax. If the pistol is off roster usually add a premium, especially if it's evil, black & tactical.

Ruger P345 leaped for the OP to my mind, though I would look for a used P90 myself.

Why anybody would mention block when "decent trigger" is desired is beyond me.

I bought a glock for $250 but I am certainly not going to start recommending glocks, even used glocks, when people ask about sub $300 guns.

I do however think it would not be too hard to find a used P220 for $600 or less.
