Trouble Finding First Pistol

First off, I am new to this forum as well as pistols so I am open to suggestions and advice. However after doing several months of research I have decided to purchase my first pistol, and I had my heart set on a CZ-75Bd chambered in 9mm.

However, none of my local shops carry them or can even place a backorder on them. (I have tried almost 10 different LGS). As much as I would hate to choose a different pistol I have also had my eye on the Smith and Wesson M&P 9.

I guess my question would be is this a comparable 9mm and also is this a good first pistol to buy?

My intent would be to use this pistol mostly at the range. When not at the range I would also want to keep it as a self defense gun for use at home.

Does this change your opinion on either of these two autoloaders?

As far as handling and getting to fire the pistols, I have only fired the M&P. I have not been able to hold or fire the CZ75 since no one has on available anywhere. I guess I should just go with what feels right. I will see if I can possibly handle both the Beretta and High Point before I make my final decision.

On a side note to Kokapelli, I have shot and handled two S&W 1911's one chambered in 9mm and the other an E-series chambered in .45. They were both beautiful handguns and fit right in my hand. I guess it would come down to whether or not I would be willing to spend the extra money for them
