Apparently I have a problem. I bought a S&W 460 a little over three weeks ago and liked it so much I've gone full blown retarded for revolvers. I have since bought 5 other new revolvers and 4 used ones. I don't know why, but I shoot them 10x better than I do my semi-autos.

Still being new to revolvers I have a couple questions. First, I have 38, 357, and 44 covered, but what would be a quality 45acp revolver to look for? There doesn't seem to be many companies making 45acp, is there a reason for that, problems with them?

Question two, I love the Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter I got last week, but I think the scope on it is for a rifle. I can't for the life of me get it dialed in, plus I hate the look of it anyway. What's a good scope for the SBH? I don't know squat about scopes, I'd like to be in the $250-$350 range if that's possible.

Mainly there isn't much reason to get a revolver in 45 ACP. The S&W 625 is probably the best, and one of the few still being made. I have one, and got it specifically to shoot revolver competitions with. With full moon clips it is the fastest revolver in the world to reload. The thing is, that is it's only benefit. Compared to most modern revolver calibers, the 45 ACP is kind of on the wimpy side.

By the way, good start on a revolver collection there. I'm up to sixteen, and there are still a bunch more I want.

You know you're on the list now right?

Nice collection all the way around.

I too generally am more accurate with the revolvers too, hence my collection has gone to old Smith's of late.

Find a nice Brazilian contract 1917 Smith for a good 45acp revolver. I have one and I absolutely love it.

I think there is. I like the idea of using my 1911 ammo stash since I keep plenty on hand.

Haha, apparently I am, the poor saps at the gun shop have to fill out a second form when I come in. I guess there's some sort of requirement for this second form if you've bought multiple handguns in the same week (or 5 days?). I don't know if this is a new rule or what.

In New Jersey you would be protected by the State from your addiction.
Only one handgun per month

I'd rather be taken out back and put down like Old Yeller. No offense but you live in a cesspool of a state.

10 handguns in a month ought to be good enough for making the BATF and FBI's shopping list,

And that's just the revolvers 35kpzkh.gif

Google search shows me a bunch of rust buckets. I'd hope to get something made in the last decade or two. Although I gotta say it looks better than the current S&W line-up for ACP's I saw on their site.

.45 ACP? There is one place to look, the 625 JM or the 625 PC. The best ever made despite the old men who coddle blued guns in cardboard boxes.:D

I love the look of the gun itself, but the big "JM" and lightning bolt on the grips totally kill it for me. Are replacement grips for this gun easy to find?

Any N frame round butt or round to square will work. I suggest you try the stock grips first though, they seem to win a lot of revolver matches.
Ahrends has an answer though.

If you want another Single-Action, the Ruger Blackhawk in available in a 'convertible' model...1 cylinder for .45 Colt, 1 cylinder for .45ACP.

Pistol/revolver scopes has "long eye relief"....that is, the scope is arms-length from your eye, while rifle/shotgun scopes are around 3"-5" of 'eye-relief' i.e.the distance from your eye where you can actually see through the scope.

I too have a revolveradiction. I used to not even look at them. But now they are all I go for. But my budget doesnt allow me to do what I want :/ ill gladly take your $ to curb ur addiction and support my own.

Dang... If I brought home 10 guns in a month, I would have to make my home in the Barn..

Nothing wrong with 4acp. Just not something I would personally choose over a Magnum round in a Revolver.

On the Ahrends site now, I love some of these grips, might order one for a j frame tonight.

after shooting a 44mag or a 357 mag a 45 ACP is not a lot of fun. You will be much happier with a 45 long. Get a convertible if you decide to buy a Ruger.

I think most handgun scopes would top out at 5X-10X magnification, if yours has more than that it may well be a rfilescope. I use a Burris 2x-7x-32mm on my Redhawks, it's a great scope, I paid $340 for it. The Weigand scope rail and rings was another $100. There's no two ways about it, a scope on top of a handgun always looks to me like the 747 NASA uses to haul the space shuttle on.

Should definitely have a Ruger Blackhawk .45LC/.45ACP convertible on your short list.

I too am a revolver addict. I think there are about 17 or 18 in the safe now. My favorite BY FAR is a 5" S&W Model 625 in .45ACP. Extremely accurate, soft shooting and easy to hand load for. Plus, it's a bowling pin slayer!

Welcome to the club (cult?)! :D

Actually that looks like it might be the old B&L or Bushnell Elite 2-6x (same thing) pistol scope. If it is, it's one of the best, although I prefer a Burris or Leupold 2x for revolvers. It definitely takes practice to get good with a scope and for the handgun hunter, it effectively doubles your range. Especially in low light.
