It's been a while since I found a nice S&W outside of a pawnshop, lol.

I went over to see my gunsmith today as he expressed an interest in a semi-auto I was planning to sell. Well, money is tight for him right now so I put it away. Then, one of his other customers expressed an interest in it and wondered if I'd consider a trade. I was about to say no but decided to ask what she had in mind. A 4" nickle 19-4 with original box and tools she said. Well, I just about fell off my chair. She brought it in the shop, I looked it over, she looked over the semi-auto, we shook hands and traded guns.

I've only been looking for one of these to join it's blued brother for over a year, fate moves in strange ways sometimes. Cost basis is $589 so it's not a steal, but, sometimes you gotta pay for one ya really want. Her cost basis was $550 so she threw in a box of 50 .38 special and a box of 50 .357 magnum factory ammo. I think it was a fair deal for both and I'm thrilled to have found this one on an otherwise dreary day when I wan't even looking for one.

Here she is.

Nice looking gun.. I gots one just like it without the Box and dox.
You did very well. The 4" is about as handy as any revolver made. Enjoy it.

UGH! Another Model 19 stolen out of my hands!

Congrats on a great deal and a great gun.

RANGE REPORT REQUIRED!!!

I wonder if this one was worked from the factory, it has a target trigger and hammer. The double-action is unbelievably smooth and crisp. I checked the mainspring tension screw to make sure the old trick hadn't been pulled; it's in there all the way.

Range report later this week

Nice job Mutt! I was getting worried about you, haven't seen many posts with new stuff for a while. I was tuning in daily to see your latest :neener:

Mutt, you did good son! You find more good deals than Guillermo, I swear, every time that guy shows up he's got new iron hanging on his hip. I picked up a new to me # 15-4 4" Combat Masterpiece about 2 weeks ago, 98%. I'm through for awhile, can't afford to feed these new kids like they want to eat! lol

Nice find.

Don't feel bad. For some reason powder residue is very difficult to remove from nickeled guns.:banghead: While rust resistance is very good the finish scratches easily. The stagnant economy and fact that older folks are passing on will make the so called 'Holy Grails' easier to find.

Sweet looking Model 19 there bikemutt! A friend oof mine has a Model 19 that came from the factory with the target trigger and hammer, though it is a blued model.

Truer words have never been said. That 586-1 I picked up at the pawnshop last week was from "an old customer who is down on his luck and needed money", at least that's what the pawnbroker told me.

This gun, the story goes, comes from a old guy retiring to Hawaii where the gun laws are unfriendly enough he chose to sell off his collection rather than deal with it.

Nice find indeed. I have a blued 19-3 that still goes to the range quite often and shoots great.

I think you made a nice trade and you have a revolver that you really wanted.

That nickel 19 orta be a ticket into most any BBQ in the country, not to mention one durn fine sidearm for practical usin'.

I am of the opinion that some of these Old Ladies were Custom Shop Guns when
originally ordered from S&W.
I have been fortunate to find some 19s that have Actions Slick as Glass.
compared to other in the same Series. If she has no ScrewDriver MArks I would venture
you could have a Special Order Gun.

She is a Beautiful 19

Fellow THRs, I've been remiss shooting this wonderful revolver. It's a blend of holiday craziness, getting the "Seattle" flu and a busted water heater. Now I'm out of excuses, and I feel much better after shaking the grunge.

Tomorrow is the day, range report to follow :)
