It's not about the firearms. It's about mental illness and the need for this country to reinvest into its medical infrastructure and programs. Anyone with half a brain will know this. Just look at the murderous sprees that took place in China using kitchen tools.

As for banning AR's & AK's, your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they'll get treated the same way as NFA weapons in the future. In the case of CT, it had nothing to do with 'em even though the media tried to tie the AR in his trunk to the guy's killing spree.

That is true but it is pointed out that many of these victims did not die.
 
I have no need for or a desire to own an "assault" weapon, since I don't plan on "assaulting" anyone. All my weapons are levers, pumps, bolts, and revolvers which are quite capable of hunting, HD, and SD.



However, if it makes you feel more secure to have an "assault" weapon, I support your decision to do so.
 
"Assault weapons" have select fire, full auto capability. Do you mean semi automatic rifles that cosmetically resemble some military style weapons? :rolleyes:

Who exactly are going to take their place that would be more beneficial? The Green Party? Unfortunately I've given up on electing a libertarian congress.
 
I too, do not own an assault weapon. I own an american sporting rifle cal. .223 self loading, that goes bang on each squeeze of the trigger. The true definition of an assault rifle is one used by the military in current issue. All of those rifles that you mention were at one time considered assault rifles. If the definition of an assault rifle is any weapon in current or prior use by the military, then all of them are assault rifles including the flintlock musket. Assault rifle is a misnomer, coined by the antis and the media.

Apparently killed at close range by the two handguns the shooter had. He left the Bushmaster out in the car, apparently the better to enter the building unchallenged. :what::eek::uhoh:

That won't stop calls for "assault weapon" and "high capacity magazine" bans, though. :banghead::banghead::banghead::barf:

Unfortunately the medical examiner just confirmed that almost all the shots fired came from a rifle caliber.

Regardless it's a black rifle and that may bring new calls for an AWB.
I live in Canada where a couple of school shootings brought sweeping reforms in the last 20 years including an almost complete ban on modern military rifles specifically by name.
The AR survived the ban only as a restricted class firearm due to its use in competitions.
Restricted class here means range use only, no sporting use.
We also have a 5 round cap on semi auto rifles, not that a criminal can't defeat an aluminum rivet on a 5/30 mag.
 
Given the current Congressional deadlock and the other major problems rolling through the Legislature, I'd bet for some total bans being suggested and going nowhere. It will be posturing.

We've been through VT, Columbine, etc. - and the impetus fades as the news cycle moves on.

What does a ban mean anyway? Total ban on buying and owning semiautomatic handguns and long guns combined with mandatory turn-ins.

It won't happen in the current USA.

You might get mandating NICS for private sales at gun shows but that's about it.

Our GUESS? Our random chicken-little speculation about any of the many things that MIGHT happen? What a useless thread.

How about we focus on resisting bad legislative changes IF and at such time that they ever appear on the radar screen, rather than quaking over all the things that "they" might do.

Random speculation about all the boogeymen we can dream up isn't what we're about, here.

(FWIW, GEM had about the most likely answer.)
