another noob question, 'bout hunting bullets

Is a black powder revolver a legal hunting firearm in Colorado?

Someone's neighbor in Michigan recently shot a very nice deer at ~25 yards with a Ruger Old Army loaded with 30 grains of 777 and a 180 grain bullet.
And it's a very impressive looking deer.

I shot a non-impressive buck with my Old Army after the rifle bullet disintegrated on his shoulder (Hornady HP-XTP 250 gr.). The ROA shot cast 255 gr. flat-nose bullets cast from a Lee mold in front of 30 gr. of 3FG. One shot in the lungs at ~40 yards did the trick.

If it's legal in Colorado and you're a good shot with it, give it a whirl.

Here's your homework:

1. Go to youtube and put Duelist 1954 in the search bar. Peruse his videos until you find one concerning velocity and accuracy with different types of bullets. One of the bullets is a 240 grain bullet made by a feller named Kaeto (or something like that). If memory serves, Duelist has a link to Kaeto's bullets.

2. Obtain a deer sized target and find the maximum range that you can put a bullet into the vitals 100% of the time.

3. Probably a good idea to check the game laws in your state. In fact, I'd do this first.

It's Kaido, and you can also search Old Army Test, which should bring up his 6 part test using both Goex and Triple 7 using round balls, conicals, and 255 grn Kaido bullets.

I have Kaido's 240 grn variation, and have only pushed them with a max charge of 35 grns of 3F Triple 7. I must be besting the results shown. But I'm having trouble keeping all 6 within a 4" circle at 25 yds, which is my idea of a requirement. I'm going to try backing off to 30 grns next go around. I figure as long as I can come close to the old 45 Colt load I'm doing good enough for a hunting load.

Those bullets run $40/100 + shipping, which isn't exactly cheap. Some people seem to have good results using 45 Colt bullets, but without a reduced heel I'm not sure how you can seat them straight. But some people seem to.

The 190 grain Buffalo Pistol Bullets seem to be very accurate when fired from a Dragoon and have also been recommended for hunting deer with the Ruger Old Army.

Black Powder Pistols not legal in Colorado.............

Not legal for a muzzle loading hunt or long side the guy with the 30-06.
Wisconsin has a 4' barrel length for pistols used in dear hunting.

Is it legal to carry as a sidearm?

Here in Texas it is not legal to use a cap n ball gun, but it is legal to carry one as long as you do have a muzzleloader during muzzleloader season. Otherwise it can be used.

Go hunt in Alabama or Florida then. There's a couple of fellas in South Florida who hunt hogs with a cap and ball Remington all the time. I believe they're on this forum and post vids on youtube; forget their name though.

Hogs are not considered game animals in Florida so the game dept.'s rules don't apply. Any way or any thing you want can be used on hogs except in Wildlife Management Areas where you have to follow the local rules printed on the brochure.

Not legal part cant answer. Hower the WALKER was designed to knock down a horse. Im sure it will be fine on a Deer
