I think the NRA would do so much better with a "leader" like Charlton Heston. A man who could be identified, and liked, by folks who aren't necessarily gun enthusiasts or may be uniformed and don't have a solid opinion.

Tom Selleck would be a perfect face of the NRA.

Thoughts?

The NRA needs a face and a team of knowledgeable experts (e.g. Kopel, Kleck, Volokh) to run sidekick to that face.

They need it desperately and NPR is taking full advantage of the NRA's lack of face. It doesn't look good. I'd much rather have an OK or ho-hum face than a crazy Alex Jones being our representative.

Where is the NRA standing up ?? With all that money from members ?? Give us some strong voice , La Pierre !!

like ignitions suggestions but would like ANYONE other than what we have right now. Armed guards at every school in the nation,,,give me a break

we need to swing michelle obama to our side and get her to take the spot. maybe if she holds out on barrack he'll drop the subject

Tom Selleck or Sam Elliot would be good. Just as long as it isn't this guy.....

Sorry I had to post it, hope it made you laugh. I agree though, we need a new leader in the NRA to take the reins for public speaking...

LaPierre reminds me of the owner of the car dealership who demands to be in all their commercials. Even though he is terrible all the employees are afraid to say anything. He may be a good administrative leader of the organization, but he is terrible as a public spokesman or debater. Why can't this giant organization find someone who knows the issues and can explain them concisely?

Get us fricken' James Earl Jones. He's (very quietly) pro-2nd.

Can't argue much with JEJ anymore than one could with CH. THAT kind of gravity in the argument, like you were suddenly on Jupiter.

But I most certainly like Mr. Selleck as an actor and pro-2nd man.

"From my cold, dead hands!"...

I'm sad now that he died before I was a member (that was only a year after I bought my first gun, but I like the idea of Chuck Norris.

R.Lee Ermey if someone would write the speeches for him.. We just need someone that is respected and well known, and is known to be tough enough to not back down on hard subjects..

A few that were outspoken on 2A rights were William Shatner, Bruce Willis, Ron Pearl,an, and Tommy Lee Jones. I am not sure if their stance is still as strong, but Tommy Lee Jones would be a good choice.

Need someone that bucks the stereotype of gun owners. It seems that most anti-gun people view all gun owners as illiterate, toothless, redneck types or rich, old, white guys.

I don't have anything against rednecks or old white guys, but it's not the best image in this ultra PC world we live in.

I wonder if a well-spoken woman would be able to capture and maintain the role as necessary. I'm thinking two of my most-admired: Dana Perina, and Dr. Condoleeza Rice.

While I admired & liked Charlton Heston, I wouldn't want anyone selected to be the "face" of the NRA to be too old: we need someone who at least looks young enough to be a mom or dad to one of today's voting-age youth, not their cranky/insane grandpa or gramma! In addition, they need to be quick-witted enough to hold their own against the inevitable ad hominem attacks, poor logic, & etc. they'll be confronted with in the public arena by The Enemy<tm>. [This lets me off the hook, since I have what's known to the French as "l'esprit d'escalier" as opposed to "l'esprit vif" which is what's needed. ;) ]

The candidate we're seeking can't be known primarily as a comedian either, so we need someone known more for their dramatic roles [altho', I personally believe that if they can't do comedy, they aren't likely to be quick-witted enough to hold the position.]

Anyone know if James Franco is pro-2nd A.? Charlize Theron is plenty classy & easy on the eyes to boot; what's her stance? While Tom Selleck or Sam Elliot would be great choices for folks of my generation, we've got to WHAM the young voters who're too inexperienced with life to realize they're being handled & sold downriver by The Enemy.

And remember: The Enemy will continue to say that they need to disarm the American public to promote the public safety. When the American public is disarmed, then the growth of crime and violence upon a defenseless public will lead The Enemy to clamor for more police. When we are finally completely subdued under the yoke of a police state, The Enemy will no longer need their cloak of beneficence, and will call for abolition of the Constitution in the name of ever greater control. And it will be too late to revolt, because we will no longer have the means to do so. This is the reason behind the 2nd Amendment, and why any attempts to abrogate it by our elected officials must lead to their impeachment, and after successfully impeached, must lead to their being tried for treason, and after conviction, must lead to their public hanging. Because execution by firing squad or lethal injection is too good for them.

Charlize may not be the best choice:

Charlize doesn't think people should be able to go all willy nilly with gun ownership. "I don't think anyone should have a semiautomatic weapon for anything," she said. Sadly, the actress is no stranger to gun violence. In 1991, she saw her mother shoot and kill her father, who was drunk and shooting at Charlize and her mom. The actress notes that this tragic experince [sic] may have influenced her views on gun control.

Two others that are pro RKBA:

Brad Pitt:
Pitt said in a recent interview with British magazine Live (in response to more gun control following the Colorado movie shooting), “I absolutely don’t believe you can put sanctions or shackles on what is made. Nor do I want to pretend the world is different than what we witnessed that night… America is a country founded on guns. It’s in our DNA. It’s very strange but I feel better having a gun. I really do. I don’t feel safe, I don’t feel the house is completely safe, if I don’t have one hidden somewhere. That’s my thinking, right or wrong.”

Pitt also recently built a $400,000 shooting range as a wedding gift to fiance Angelina Jolie.

Angelina Jolie:
Jolie, an avid shooter (she has to be to be getting her own $400k shooting range), Jolie has several times expressed her support of the Second Amendment.

In 2008, Jolie told the U.K.’s Daily Mail, “I bought original, real guns of the type we used in ‘Tomb Raider’ for security. Brad and I are not against having a gun in the house, and we do have one. And yes, I’d be able to use it if I had to … If anybody comes into my home and tries to hurt my kids, I’ve no problem shooting them.”
