I feel sorry for all the people who are getting into gun ownership right now out of fear. If (when) prices come back down, many of them will be completely turned off by the amount of money they lost. What I really feel bad about them and the current price of magazines, is that they buy their first gun and then they generally have to pay 2x-4x the price of what the mags were just a few weeks ago.
I just ran into this situation, myself, this afternoon. I was tempted to purchase a Mini-14 back in November, but was hellbent on finding a Colt 6450. I went back to the store, and the Mini-14 was the exact same price as it was in November, and at the same price....so I bought it. It only came with one 5-round magazine, and I was debating on buying a 10+ round mag now or waiting. I lived through the AWB and watched new Glock 17 mags go from $20 to $90-$115 and stay there for years. I decided to spend a little more money for the "now factor", found someone with some 20-rounders in stock, and bought two of them. If the prices come down, I'll buy more later....
I still have many unused mags for other guns from '94 that I have never used and, in some cases, never opened. Matter of fact, I believe I have a couple of unfired guns I bought just before the AWB and prices skyrocketed (like a "new" $199 Norinco MAK-90). THIS is not the time to just start getting the gun-bug.
