I see quite a bit of large pistol primers in stock, but no small pistol primers.

Why do you think that is?

think of the common calibers that people reload. 380, 9mm, 38 spl, 357 mag, 40 short&weak etc etc they all use SPP.

45acp is the only one in my opinion thats reloaded as much as any of the above and then you have 44 mag, 44spl and 45lc that arent nearly as common, all of which require a lpp.

im sure spp have 5x the demand as lpp do.

that being said, starting low and working up a load, you can use small rifle primers for the time being. they have a harder cup so they may not be 100% reliable in pistols with a weak firing pin hit, but I have been using them as of recently without problem.

Maybe it's just California, but Sportsman's Warehouse had no primers whatsoever. Just a huge empty shelf. Normally over 100 boxes (of 1000) are on display. Never seen anything like it. It's getting very real here now. I'm going to curtail my trips to the range, or possibly establish a minimum ammo reserve for each caliber. 200 hunting rifle, 1000 for AR15, 1000 for semi pistols, and 500 for large revolver? Is that a lifetime supply if you stop going to the range?

oh, and two dozen arrows :).

My LGS here in MN has a lot of Tula SPP's on the shelf plus several cases on the floor. Some Rem 5-1/2's, LPP's plus plenty of powder. Hopefully that means the shortages are localized and you guys will be seeing some soon.

No AR's or .223 ammo of course.

SPP disappeared in this area last October. When you could find them, they were $40.00 a 1,000.

spp have been gone for a while where I"m from. I bought up about 40k of them luckily before the election. I was worried about them being hard to find. I was right, about a month off I reckon. I tried to buy any primers I could find the other day but only got away with 1000 small rifle that I needed. It sucks when it gets like this. I am lucky that I bought 40k of small pistol, 25k of small rifle, 40k of large rifle, and just 1 k of large rifle cause i rarely load that. I just hate having to try and guess what I need. Glad I'm heading home to the Hoosier state in a month where i have a 55 gallon barrel of wheel weights to melt down and cast into boolits to shoot up. Staying in Oregon was gonna be pretty depressing

Homeland Security has an enormous order for 40 S&W ammo with ATK. I imagine most of their CCI500s are going to that order. Also the Army is restocking ammo, and they will require a lot of small pistol and small rifle primers as well. Add in the panic buying from talk about AR bans and hi-cap mag bans (not sure why people would stock up on primers because of that) and the little buggers are scarce. This too shall pass.
