The article states that the decision to ban certain types of arms and magazines from the show was made by the event organizer, Reed Exhibitions.

They're closed today of course, but I was able to leave them a detailed message about why I, a PA resident, will not be attending the show.

Here's what I'm getting Guys.
It ain't Cabella's or Kinsey's or The New Holland Sportmen shop but instead the "organizers" of the show who have their heads SOMEWHERE!
I really hope that this gets public attention !

Good for Cabela's. I can't understand why any retailer that sells modern firearms would support this show. Next year will be semi auto shotguns?

Reed Exhibitions is the shows organizer and is well within their rights to exclude whatever they choose. Their call and their decision which I can understand. However, as becomes apparent all decisions carry some consequence. Since Cabela's did not care for their decision they have every right to choose not to do this show. I admire Cabela's for their decision.

Promoters make their money in two main ways. The exhibitors pay a hefty price for space but there is also a big take on parking and admissions. This is where gun enthusiast have the right to boycott the show as they damn well should do. I would like to see a grass roots movement for gun owners to boycott the event which would further send the message we don't appreciate our rights being trampled upon.

Just My Take
Ron

While you are at it, also send a message about this to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) who retain Reed to run the SHOT Show. In terms of money it is far larger then the show in Harrisburg. I highly doubt that Reed wants to get NSSF upset.

I attempted to email NSSF with the address that Old Fuff provided, but that email address was rejected as 'invalid.' I went to their site and was able to send an email thru it instead.

And this is why I do a majority of my gun related shopping at Cabelas.

That and they're a 5 minute drive from where I live :p

Cabelas was a major supporter of that show. I hope a lot of the "regulars" who have tables and booths drop out. No better way to make a statement to a CT based company. The world is not like CT or NY or NYC. I say... skip the show unless you are paid to attend as some speakers are.

I have never seen Cabela's at any gun show around here. But, there is a Cabela's about 8 miles north of Fort Worth.....chris3

Thanks for the link to the Facebook page. I'm a Black Platinum Cabelas card holder and I voted my support! Wow...the thousands of positive comments there should make a big statement!

Left a comment in support of their decision on Facebook. We need more companies to take a stand like this. As soon as we start acting as if a portion of our hobby (IE, AR's and other modern rifles) then we are at that point fighting a losing battle.

This is not your typical gun show. It is a sports show. Cabelas is one of the central businesses at that show. They have a big store not so far from Harrisburg. Most of the manufacturers will have booths. I hope many more drop out. The standard deal for out of towners is to go to the show and then hit Cabelas.

I love Cabelas, and will continue shopping there, as for some other retailers not so much.

Good for them. I'm just waiting for the new store in Columbus to open, will be driving wight past Dicks to get there.
