Hey now this is a great thread. I’m coming back again to look closer. You guys have some neat stuff. I’m really jealous.

I don’t have the time at the moment to post mine again but here is a thread showing a few of them. Czechs only though. I do have a lot of other makes as well but have a look if you are interested.

Also one the first page, anyone know the third rifle down in the first pic of Zen.45's post?

It's a French Lebel 1886 M93 (the standard French rifle in WW1).

Awesome, thanks for bringing this thread back!

Indeed, reminds me I have to make some pictures of my latest buys

Hello Ka'Boom!

The Mini-uzi is really nice!

@bcp280z

Shung has already explain the swiss law on THR, but I can explain it again.

The law has been hardened in 2008. There is 3 categories of weapons. Hunting rifle, sport shooting rifle, Swiss Schmidt and Rubin, ... need to be registered to the cantonal weapon office. To buy handguns, other repetition rifle, semi rifle, you need a "weapon purchase permit" that allow you to buy 3 weapons in the same time at a gunsmith or a private seller. No restriction of caliber, barrel length, magazine capacity, ... For automatic or silencer, you need a "special purchase permit" that allow you to buy an automatic weapon or accessories as a silencer. It is a bit harder to obtain, and you have to keep the bolt locked, separately of the weapon, and need a authorization if you want to fire with your automatic gun. That is a bit annoying.

For the swiss army sig 550 automatic issued rifle, it's different. Every swiss citizen between 20 and 30 years has to serve in the swiss army. The swiss government give us an automatic sig 550 during the boot camp that we had to keep at home. You can also have a sig 550 lent for free by the army, under some conditions, for sport shooting because 300 meters shooting is a big tradition here, and it is encouraged by the government. Also I have an automatic sig 550 at home, but I can only fire it in semi.

Here is the last piece of my collection: an original VZ 58, that has been early converted in semi under the old swiss law and also considered as a semi. FAB defense accessories come from an israeli web shop.

It fire 7,62x39 cartridge.

A very nice assault rifle, renewed with those FAB defense accessories. The knife is an Sog trident.

You're a Canadian?? Wow, nice collection , but I thought Canada had a ban on 30rd mags and I see what looks like a 30rd mag in your pic? Not exactly asking for an explanation, just a bit curious..

It is pinned to 5 rounds with a POP Rivet by the importer who is authorized to sell to law enforcment agencies and the military.
It is then sold to us Canadians for $23.95.

Wow, there are some really cool firearms outside the US!

I'm going to be completely honest and say that I had no idea gun ownership was that free in Switzerland. I knew that most households had weapons, and many people have select fire rifles, but the Browning .50s and the MG42s were surprising to me.

If you don't mind me asking- about how much would an MG42 cost in Switzerland?

I'd be interested in knowing more as well.

Ah forgot to reply to this. Yes in Northern Ireland, pistols are not banned.

Specifically Article 3 where it explicitly mentions handguns. Otherwise, the legislation reads much like the 1997 England Act that you linked to.
Similarly, Article 45 is the list of prohibited weapons and pretty much identical except the short firearms are not mentioned.

Swiss medium salary is about 6700$. 4000$ is a low salaray, 8000$ or 9000$ is a very good salary. Remember that life is (very) expensive here.

Here you have the price of some weapons in swiss francs (1 CHF = 1.08 USD):

With pictures: http://www.waffen-joray.ch/automaten.html http://www.kueng-waffen.ch/index.php/seriefeuerwaffen

For exemple, 20 7,62x39 Barnaul cost about 10$. 1000 9 para Gecko cost about 255$. A brand new SIG 550 PE cost about 3200$. A Schmidt and Rubin 1931 is between 30 and 150$. :)

A MG 42 start maybe at 1300$ for a yugoslavian production to 2000$ or 3000$ and more for a real german. For a Browning M2 you can count between 3000 and 5000$.

Maxon M45: start at 20'000$

For the first time, foreign diplomats based in Switzerland travelled with Swiss President Ueli Maurer to the annual “field shoot” event held near the town of St. Ursen in canton Fribourg.

The longstanding tradition, which has its origins in the Swiss military’s shooting practice, is the world’s largest marksmanship event. More than 120,000 participants took part in similar events across the country, competing in either the 300-metre rifle shoot or the 50 and 25-metre pistol shoot.

On Friday, Maurer and the other shooters were forced to aim into the torrential rains that are expected to drench most of Switzerland over the weekend.
