Powder, brass and primer famine in your area too?

Headed out to stock up on 30.06 ammo because I'm down to my last 1500 LR primers... 1st stop was Bass Pro. I had ten boxes of Remington in my arms and went down the reloading aisle to pay. The shelves were almost bare, 3 bags of brass, 6 lbs of powder and out of stock signs everywhere.

But, wait...10 small blue sleeves? In the primer section? The only primers up there? Surely they're magnum or something, right? Nope. Small pistol Primers!
It was like a mirage.

That truly was a miracle instead of a mirage! You actually found 1000 SPP in one place, good for you...

I stopped at a local shot today who is rarely open because the owner has health problems. I could not believe how many primers he had on the shelf including SRP and SPP. He has a lot of powder too including Hodgdon, IMR and Accurate powders. BUT, even though he had bullets for the 9mm there were no .224" bullet on his shelf other than 40gr bullets and lighter.

It was a jaw-dropper. Fortunately, my gunsmith isn't reloading much anymore and he stocked me up with a couple thousand last month. I shoot mainly 30.06, but I know many pistol loaders who have come up short. Plenty of opportunity to share resources and pass on that good reloader's karma.

Went into the LGS/Range this afternoon. They said most days they have a line waiting to use the handgun range. Tuesday is their slowest day, 2/3 of the lanes were in use.

I asked about SPP, limit is one tray (100 primers). Their shipment for this week had one brick (1,000 primers). They didn't have much cases or bullets. Powder was about 1/3 full, Alliant and IMR were marked for $20-23.

The clerk told me that some 3 months back they finally received their last 22 LR backorder from the 08 shortage. Naturally, it's gone.

The only guns they got this week were a few "black" rifles. All CA style with fixed stocks and 10 round mags. They also said they would have a very busy day tomorrow, since today is the state of the union propaganda.

I am fortunate in that I have plenty of powder, primers and brass for everything I shoot. However, I have been wanting some Sierra 69 grain .224 bullets. Sunday morning at 6 AM Cabela's showed 100 and 500 packages in stock so I ordered 1,000 bullets at about $120 per 500. Sunday morning by 8 AM they were out of stock. Today, Tuesday my order arrived which was quicker than I ever expected. Amazing how quick stuff goes when distributers have it. I mean at 6 AM in stock and I order and by 8 AM sold out. Just got lucky with something I wanted I guess.

The sad part of this whole thing is that the greed of the opertunists and the panic buyers are really cutting into our way of life.

Our local Gander Mountain advertised having 22lr ammo in there flyer they sent out over the last week.

They had over 5 million rounds of 22lr at 8:00 in the morning and were sold out by 10:30 of the same morning.

2 and 1/2 hours flat.

I can't help but think how many of these 5 million rounds will show up at the next gun show at a much higher price.

Aint America great?

I everyone would refuse to pay the inflated prices they would go home with those same 22LR boxes or drop the price to something reasonable. I don't blame the sellers, I blame it all on the buyers.

Small pstoil primers disappeared last October. Everything else was gone by the end of the year. I haven't been out making the rounds in a couple of weeks. I've been too busy reloading. Maybe tommorow I'll get out and about. I don't need anything except .308 bullets. I'm down to 500-600.

Cabela's online has had a pretty good stock of .308 bullets, they seem to come and go depending on what you are looking for.

A buddy of mine went into Sportsman's last Fri. morning, looking for primers, different sizes. When he got the primers, he asked the guy about .22 cartridges , "Yeah we got 'em, $89.00 a brick." My God, he said, I don't need them that bad. I can't believe these folks!

I found that midsouthshooterssupply.com has several brands of powder backorderable which show ship dates form the end of this week to the end of the month. Prices are not crazy inflated. I stocked up.
