Colorado Lawmaker: Women Afraid Of Rape Can't Be Trusted With Guns

What if someone raped him, the criminal code has a different " element of the crime" definition but the end result is same. He has no clue how rape affects a woman. Sickening!!!!!!

If the MSM was non biased this would be on the cable channels every hour and a Democrat with an anti-woman agenda with demands for Obama and other Dems to apologize or kick men like him out of the party. Will not hear a peep.

My university had problems with rapes in the campus area in the years I was attending. The solution was to add more of the emergency hot-line call stations around the campus. There were only a few of them sprinkled around, with hundreds of yards of dark, shadowy areas between them. I guess that's fine if you can convince the rapist to only attack you near a phone, then wait for the cops to show up.

This was also the same campus where a nut-job professor pulled a gun in a staff meeting and shot several people execution-style. I guess she didn't get the memo that it was a gun-free campus.

Salazar is......um.........special. Seriously, after hearing him at the committee hearings, I really do think he's a little below certain chart lines. Useful idiot, basically; a good sacrificial lamb.

Watching these people in action, I think the theory mentioned in another thread about cosmic intelligence rays and gold being impervious to them may have some merit.

I guess the phone things are intended as a deterrent rather than an actual means to prevent/halt an attack.
Deterrents are all well and good, but I think that a better one would be posters reminding potential rapists that concealed carry was permitted and encouraged on campus.

Easy, give 'em a "Whistle" and then toss them in the worst prison you can find in your State.

Smart money....says they will have a new outlook on "rape" (and how best to defend against it) when they come back out.

Hint: It ain't a whistle. ;)
I live in Louisiana, I would say give them half a sporting chance, like maybe that double barrel 12 GA then let them loose in Angola.

University of Alabama - Huntsville?

I wonder why they didn't include "avoid dressing provocatively or interacting with men" on their list? Concealing their desirable features? Avoiding social exposure without a male guardian present at all times? I've not heard a much more patronizing statement from a "respectable" politician since that idiot and his "legitimate rape" quip back during the election (actually, this current one is far worse). Anyone think this will get 3+ months of daily mention, as well?

What gives? I thought rape-prevention classes are adamant about the need to fight back with all means available. Where are these folks shouting from Women's groups about the need for gun access? The very people who demanded the call boxes, safe zones, whistles, etc..? Nearly all women I know are in favor of guns for self-defense (granted I'm in Texas).

BTW, that link is really slow (I wonder why..? :D). I love the groan audible in the background; a collective "oh man, did he just say that?" You can tell he figured out he messed up big toward the end of his statement. Well, he apologized, so "move along, nothing to see here." I'm sure that'd go over just great with any republican pol. Such chauvinism in our egalitarian, enlightened leaders...

*we really need a "shakes head" smiley ;)

When you call 911, the bad guy has to stop whatever he's doing and wait for the cops to show up!
Oh yeah, I forgot it worked that way. We should really work on getting 911 deployed to Afghanistan, in that case ;)

so why exactly do politicians have bodyguards???? we are wasting so much money as taxpayers... they should just have safety whistles!!!! see how that works...

In my opinion, a 'safe zone' is a circular area with a diameter of about 25 yards surrounding a woman with a compact handgun and a determination not to be a victim.

The best part is that this type of 'safe zone' is completely portable.

By the way, I'm all in favor of copious "vomiting and urinating" happening during successful rape defenses; that's exactly the reaction we want from a felon surprised by the business end view of a charter arms bulldog with 200-gr. Gold Dots gaping out from within the cylinder's chambers.

JMO.

Ladies if you are worried about rape...just whistle

I guess the saying holds true. Gun control is the idea where being raped is morally superior to self defense.

A freshman Colorado lawmaker apologized Monday for suggesting during debate on gun control that a woman concerned about being raped should not be trusted with a gun -- but should instead use a whistle or call box.

MODS: I looked to see if someone else posted this story but didn't immediately see it. If so feel free to lock :D

EDIT*topic being discussed already. My bad. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=704148

My favorite thing about these "slips of the tongue" are the apologies that follow. "Oh I didn't mean that" or ""My words were taken out of context."

"I'm sorry if I offended anyone. That was absolutely not my intention," Salazar said in a statement to FOX31 in Denver. "We were having a public policy debate on whether or not guns makes people safer on campus. I don't believe they do. That was the point I was trying to make. If anyone thinks I'm not sensitive to the dangers women face, they're wrong."

Antis show their true colors.

I sort of wondered what happened to Jimeny Cricket.

Sorry, I've been writting my senators all evening and am getting punchy.

Sensitive?

I've seen abattoir workers on the kill room floor show more sensitivity than that man!

yeah, colorado's state senate and state house of reps are controlled by the Democrats and they are gift rapping an anti gun rights package for the Democrat governor to sign.

Mokin: "give a little whistle".... I am also a little punchy, which might be why I actually giggled out loud at that. :p

Of course politicians trying to backpeddle should also remember that a lie grows and grows until it's as plain as the nose on your face.

They still have call boxes?

Hopefully an attacker will have the good manners to attempt the attack near one of these boxes and will be patient while his victim uses the phone.:banghead:

Maybe they could make rape illegal more than a certain distance away from these phones...

“It’s why we have call boxes; it’s why we have safe zones; it’s why we have the whistles — because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop … pop a round at somebody,” Salazar said.

It is the sole responsibility of of the person being victimized during a violent crime (or the witness(es) of any violent crime) to decide what measure of self-defense is required to save themselves from serious bodily injury or death.

This includes any combination of passive or aggressive defensive measures, up to and including deadly force by any means necessary.

It is NOT the purview of someone not at the scene to unilaterally make that decision for the victim(s).

Telling women that they cannot use a gun against an attacker who may outweigh and out muscle them by a considerable margin is tantamount to telling them that they must submit to the will of their attacker.

So much for being "a husband and father of two beautiful girls" and spending "the last decade defending women’s rights as a civil rights attorney".

In my opinion, they're gift wrapping the legislature and governor's mansion for the GOP.

Could be wrong, but I think all of this was a gross overstep.
