Considering selling all the AR stuff.

I think I'd rather have an M1A...the old case of the veteran wanting the previous generations rifle. I do like the M16A2 which is considered an old mans rifle to the M4 fans

An M1A is a great addition to any gun collection. Whether you have to save for one, or sell your AR for one, I think you would be pleased with it (once you find ammo).... But before you get around to selling your AR for one, is it possible for you to shoot one just to be sure you like it?

If anything is going to make you regret selling that AR, doing so to fund a gun that you end up not liking would be it...

Don't worry...I didn't go and turn into a liberal. Thinking about reinvesting the money into some combination of a 22 suppressor, some handgun sights, a 308 mag fed rifle, a shotgun, fixing up a 22 rifle...that sort of thing.

What do you think?

In last twenty years I had only one military-style rifle the K2 which I sold around 2008. Recently I have found something to replace my antiquated 12ga pump gun. It is $1000 camo AR chambered for 7,62x34/35mm cartridges. It would make great HD/yard defense weapon yet I have not bought it. Why? Because ammo is made of unobtainium and the weapon might be made illegal to own, sell, trade.
Getting rid of your AR stuff and focusing on something else might actually be a smart move on your part.
 
I have a few AR rifles and a .308 battle rifle. I love them all for different reasons. I still say that the AR is the most accurate semi automatic rifle I have ever fired. I really think if you changed the configuration, you might like it a little better. One of the rifles I couldn't stand was my PTR 91, which is a .308 battle rifle. I really think you should shoot whatever you purchase before hand. Also keep in mind the M1A is ammo sensitive. Get an adjustable gas plug.

There is still one real notable difference that does give the .223 the edge over .308 probally in this debate. That is for the same weight and space, you can have notably more .223 than .308.
 
I've never run into the question at hand in regards to firearms, but in regards to various tools or hardware of a single sort when I found I was starting to collect more than I use, I found it was best to pair it down to the best one a complete set of replacement parts and then sell/give away the rest.
 
If they don't get you excited and you have other firearms you would use for self defense then by all means take advantage of the price increase. In my mind, as long as you sink that money into other firearms, no foul has been committed.

Hopefully nobody is paying $1/round for M193 or M855.

That's totally not necessary.
 
sell my pre-ban Colt H-Bar and keep the accessories that will help feed a bolt gun in .223
that's my plan.

3-gun in my area is hugely popular. so much so that it is a lottery to get to play.
than being herded from stage to stage is uncool; sucks the fun out of playing.
 
I've built a few and they have moved on down the road. I recently picked up a Rossi 92 lever gun in 357 and a revolver in 357. They seem to fit my needs more than anything else. I also picked up a 22 rifle to go with my 22 suppressor, which also happens to fit on my 22 pistol. I feel I have my bases pretty well covered.

That is how I look at my AR. I prefer the AK platform and the bigger boolits lol. To me the AR is boring. Nonetheless, I have one as a safe queen and it won't be going anywhere.
 
I have never liked the Mattel toy. It's the ergos. I'm an old fudd, prefer my bolt guns for "deer rifles", perhaps lever guns. My shotguns are for bird hunting. I have one tacticool rifle I built from an SKS. It's a toy, the trigger sux, but it's reliable and shoots and being an old DA revolver shooter, I can deal with the trigger if I just WANT to. It was cheap 20 years ago, why I bought it and several other milsurps.

The most fun of my milsurps is my Hakim. It's a friggin' cannon. :D I have more fun with black powder stuff, though, just for fun...and rimfire back when I could get ammo.

If I didn't want a defensive rifle I probably wouldn't have an AR, either.

Warp, I never said that I was paying that.... That is just what stuff in my area is going for.

I'm fortunate enough to get enough ammo each month from a sponsor to shoot and compete regularly. If I need more, I have other ways to get it besides paying a crazy amount of money for it...
 
I sold my used Stag for $1500. The guy couldn't take the money out of the bank fast enough. He really wanted it. I liked it but who can feed those things in this market.
 
Alright, I've regained my composure. Will be keeping it. Nice to have, even if I don't shoot it. Plus if the radical left doesn't want me to have it...all the more reason to keep it. Thanks y'all!
