It's that time again. The gun budget is back up to where I need to start putting together a plan. And what's better than spending someone else's money?

Here is what I'm looking for. 1911 almost for sure. 9mm or 10mm caliber full size gun. No commanders or compacts, but I might consider a CCO. Nothing stainless or parkerized. Total budget is $1400 to $1800.

I'm strictly looking for a range toy and drool piece. Possibly even a BBQ gun. Something that's not so rare I feel like I shouldn't be shooting it. I'm not opposed to buying something under budget and sending it to Ford or Turnbull for a sickening looking deep reblue job either. I'm just having a mental block on something that fits these parameters. Anyone want to offer suggestions?
 
Not real crazy about the double stacks. Really just looking for the single stacks.
 
I think you already have a DW 1911 in 10mm.
The price range you are talking...I can't think of another 10mm 1911. As far as 9s go, I'm sure there are some Colt 9mm 1911s, but I don't know anything about them--never had a hankering for a 9mm 1911.

Except for that tempestuous long-distance relationship with an EMP...and you already ruled out mini-1911s.
 
Yeah, I have 2 DWs in 10mm and love them both. I don't shoot the CBOB though. I'd love to find a DW CCO but those are tough to find.

Thought about the EMP, but I'd rather go with a DW ECO if I decided on a compact size.
 
Delta Elite about $1000.00. That leves you some left over cash for a high polish, some nice grips, and better sights.......

Oops , just saw" no stainless" in your post.
 
I am ready willing and able, just hand that money over here and I will spend it.:)
 
They did make Delta Elites in blued finish. At least the older ones did.
 
Sorry, I'm gonna be "that guy" and suggest a different caliber. What about a Coonan 1911 in .357mag?

I'm also not sure who makes the full size 9mm and 10mm versions so I'll appologize again and leave the 1911 professionals help.
 
If it's got to be a 1911 and blue, then a used blue Delta Elite is the way to go for a 10mm.

some other 10mm options:
Bren Ten - the Miami Vice gun. This will probably cost you more like $2,000-$2,500

S&W 1006 (or any 10mm S&W) - one of the best 10mm guns made that isn't plastic. Can be found in the $700-$800 price range, leaving plenty of cash left over to get a very fancy holster.

For 9mm - I would recommend a very nice Browning Hi-Power, the original wonder nine (since 1935)
 
Maybe an STI Sentry or Targetmaster... or possibly a Trojan 6.0, all available in 9mm.
 
Why not go all in and get either a Fusion or Caspian kit and build/finish her the way you want? I find the time building to be quite relaxing. And shooting something I built is extremely satisfying.

Oh man, I wouldn't trust myself to do that. I'd be afraid I'd get in a rush to finish the project and I'd cut too many corners.

I did a project like that with buying an old Mauser and using the action for a bench rifle build. Took about 3 years and about twice the money if would have cost to buy a beautiful Cooper. Now it just sits in the safe.
 
Well I think so far I'm actually leaning towards a DW ECO. Those are some really sharp looking guns.
 
You want a "drool piece"? Not sure how you feel about Beretta, but the Beretta Billennium is a gorgeous piece - if you can find one.

Also - have you ever considered a Baby Desert Eagle? I have one in .45ACP and every single buddy of mine that shoots it ends up wanting one! They have the best feeling grip of ANY semi auto I've ever held (and that's a bunch!). They make it in 9mm, .40, and .45 and also in steel or polymer.

Seriously, you should take a close look at this pistol. It is a double stack that doesn`t feel like one and the fit and finish is second to none. Accurate as all get out and the Para Ordnance P14 mags fit just fine in this pistol so the single mag it ships with is no problem. I own one and it is the best value in any pistol I have ever had.I really like the Cabot 1911`s but with only 7 rounds in the mag I don`t care how pretty the gun is. 14 rounds beats 7 rounds ANY day. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...ucts_id/411551900/EAA+SAR+K2+45ACP+14RD+BLUSS
 
Mag capacity is not a factor in this decision. The gun won't be used for any kind of defensive scenario. And most double stack pistols are a bit too thick for my hands. And I don't personally care for the look of HK guns.

The Beretta just isn't my style. And nothing wrong with the Beagle, just looking for something a little more special.
