Ditto on s&w and ruger. I really like the sp 101 and especially the lcr. Lcr is a great carry gun with a pretty decent trigger.

I'm not going to start on a rant. I think the price point has increased demand drastically for their guns, and their QC is unable to keep up, so guns get shipped out that shouldn't.

That's just a guess because I hear the same thing. They used to make great guns. Many of the guns they make are still great. I just hear that they are hit or miss. For me, I've seen 4 out of 4 misses. So I will never own one. I've also heard a lot of bad things about their CS. I just won't risk it. I'd rather save longer and give my money to an American company. Not saying Ruger and Smith don't have problems too. They do. I just prefer to do business with them.

My all-time favorites in snubbies would be a S&W J frame like a Model 649 or a Model 638.

S&W or a Rugler.

Model 60 Series in a Smith (60, 640, 649) In Aluminum (442/642)

SP101 in a Rugler is about your only choice but a good one.

I have a couple friends that love their Tauri.
Me, not so much.

Colt's are amazing but, price, parts and service, are not so amazing.

Smith's are great. Classy, nice actions, hold there value.

Ruger's are near-great. But, if you really want to use MAGNUM loads? They're great.
Plus, they are easily improved, even by amateurs. I think the Ruger double action is THE logical progression, to date.

If I could only have one handgun to do EVERYTHING? 3" Ruger SP101 in .357 mag, no question.

Well, I have a sp101 Ruger that I could probably sell the OP. I'll probably use the money to buy a Taurus, though not a revolver.

I'm thinking I should send my Taurus guns back to the factory for repair. They're not malfunctioning like everyone says they're supposed to....I guess there's something wrong with them.

Keep an eye out for a used Dan Wesson revolver. Some of the most under appreciated, best engineered modern revolvers.

May I suggest you take a serious look at an SP101?

I'm a Ruger fan, but I've always liked the Colt Detective Special.

Only thing I can think of is, your memory is failing.

Taurus used to be a bottom of the barrel bottom feeder.
More lately, the quality is hit or miss.

But I cannot recall a time in the last 50 years when they were ever considered good, compared to a S&W, Colt, or Ruger.

I have a 817. No complaints.

Never had, seen, or shot that particular model. But, I do own Taurus mod. 66B4, a .357 mag/.38 special, that is a great revolver. Not any kind of problem with it in well over two thousand rounds of various manufacturers and weights.

I have 2 S&W revolvers
I have one Colt revolver

I have a Taurus 617. The 617 is a great gun. 7 shot snub 357 for under $400. If Ruger or S&W made the exact same gun for the exact same price, I would go with Ruger based on QC rep, but since they do not, I got the Taurus and have been impressed. Great trigger BTW

As a police officer I was required to carry off duty. I used a Smith and Wesson Chief Special 38. Very concealable, light and enough to put a man down. Now days I carry a
Smith and Wesson 1911 45acp. I'm 68 years old and if the need arises I'm slow and want it over with quickly.
Notice there's a thread in the maker of my weapons. You need the confidence in your weapon to trust your life with.

Look for a Ruger Security Six. A fine piece that should be had for less than the cost of a Smith.

I know that I will be bashed for this but I have to say it. I own and shoot 5 Taurus revolvers. 2" 3" 38 specials, 4" 6" 357, and a 4" 22lr. I like all of them and they are and have been reliable for 20+ years. The 4" 357 is a early 80s late 70s model and has functioned very well for a loooong time. I also own ta 24/7 Pro 45 acp and a PT92 AFS 9mm. Again very good no problems. I know that a LOT of people do not care for Taurus guns, that is their right, also IMHO that is why there are so many different manufacturers. I also own Smiths and Springfields and like them very much. I am not a big fan of snubs made in large calibers by any one, I prefer guns that are fun and practical to shoot. I am sure everyone has differing experiences with most things they purchase. My advice, try a few different guns of various makes (rent them) and decide which best fits your personal needs. Sorry all you Taurus bashers, just couldn't resist.

I'll add my vote for an SP101....Rugers have always been rock solid for me. I might like the factory Smith trigger better but I can deal with that in short order.

I agree... S&W or Ruger.

However, I would recommend the SP over the LCR. I'm 2 for 2 on defective LCRs, both were unrepairable. My SP on the other hand has been throwing lead downrange since 1995.
