Here's a question for the collective wisdom of the board (hopefully greater than that of my Google struggles):

I just ordered a Taurus Model 44 Long Range Hunter (.44 mag, Taurus model 44 ) and I'd like to get a hoster for it, as schlepping that weight around the woods all day would not be the best. Eventually, I'll put some optics on it as well.

Most of the holsters for revolvers only go up to 10" barrel length. Holsters for Contenders or Encores do mention 14" length, but aren't mentioned as being OK for revolvers.

Any help?

Cheers,
John

First,
Go buy yourself a cow.
Remove head & legs and stitch to fit. :D

Wow, a 12'er, good luck with that.
I don't remember ever seeing them for 12 inch wheel guns.
I have seen the contender's in leather though.
I think Hunter makes them for the contenders.
Did you check out Hunters website ?

Good luck, Jeff (GUNKWAZY)

Ran into the same problem trying to find a holster for my Taurus Raging Bull...unable to locate anyone who made one specifically for that gun and barrel length. Contacted 2 different custom leather makers and both said they would be willing to make up a custom rig for me but would need my gun or one just like it to use in getting correct dimensions and for molding the leather. Both quoted prices in the $125 to $150 range. Thats a fair price for a custom made leather holster.

However, since I've been doing my own amateur leather work (belts, knife sheaths, etc.) off and on since I was a Boy Scout, I went ahead and made my own. Worked out fine and my total cost was less than $30.

If a do it yourself project isn't what you had in mind, and you're unable to find a holster that will fit, the custom makers can get you one made.

Maybe that's why they're discontinued. Never-the-less, under $400 for a .44 magnum, stainless, with a scope base and rings pretty much forced me to buy it. Or something like that. Plus, the long sight radius should make for good accuracy. What's the URL for Hunters?

Cpt. Jack, I have googled "do it yourself holster" and "make your own holster" without much success. I did do some leather work in my youth, but that was using that plastic thread to sew up pre-punched leather wallets. I did tool it, but that's not the same as cutting and punching.

Anybody sell ballistic nylon cloth?

John

Ohhh I know John,
I had a hard time NOT buying one.
Like you said, the price was right.

I recall seeing a gentleman at a range years ago who had a revolver on a sling. Might be easier to accomplish than a holster, and less expensive, too.

don't most, if all, holster have the bottom open? if so, get a 10" holster, and the barrel will stick out 2". not a big deal IMO.

I don't know, it's my first wheel gun. The holsters for autos I have would let the barrel stick out, never thought about it.

Anybody?

This ''Soft Armor'' by Mil-Tech suits my SRH's - but IIRC when I ordered it over phone, a pleasant lady implied they could make to suit whatever. Looking at the label, their number is (800) 346 4545 - as best I can make out. A call might be useful.

I placed the order today. The nice lady told me "No problem".
Turns out, there's a Miltech distributor here in NC, about 5 minutes from my house. She saved me shipping by having it shipped there.
Thanks!

John
