Hello all,
I have a Winchester 1895 that I'm trying to find some value and information on age and if anyone thinks from the photos that it's been re-blued.

The serial number is 714xx. I looked at a few sites and they list that as being manufactured in 1914. I believe it's calibered in .30-06 as those rounds feed through the action, though I haven't had a chance to fire it. On the barrel it reads: .30 u.s. mod. 1903. All the metal is in excellent condition and the wood only has very minor scratches and one ding.

Thanks

No, it's chambered for 30-03, not 30-06.

30 Army = 30-40 Krag
30 Model of 1903 = 30-03.
30 .U.S = 30-06.

See this about that.

The metal does not appear to have been re-blued to me.
However the stock wood looks to have been sanded and refinished.

That might be chambered in 30-03 as the 95 was chambered in that before it was chambered in 30-06. The 30-03 had a longer neck than the 06 IRRC with a 220 RN bullet derived from the 30-40 Krag.

The Winchesters I've seen chambered in 30-06 are marked 30 US Govt 1906.

Thanks for the information. I was mainly curious because for something that is 100 years old, it looks remarkably good. I've also had a problem finding a value and any to compare it to since many of the ones listed for sale are the remakes from the last decade or so.

Thanks

Is there a way to tell if it is calibered in .30-03 or .30-06? It does cycle the .03-06 rounds I loaded very nicely, but I'm not sure if that matters in this case. Also, the rounds I have are 180 grain and I don't know if those are too heavy to fire if it is a .30-06.

.30-'06 can be safely fired in a .30-'03 rifle; the neck is a bit short. Or .30-'03 cases can be made by neck expanding .270 Winchester cases. (No, don't ask me why Winchester chose the .30-'03 case as the basis for the .270 instead of the .30-'06. I don't know.)

This is correct..............

Thanks for all the great information. Does anyone have an idea of the value? It's really more for my own understanding versus any resale. Or what I should look for in comparing it to others on the market?

Thanks again.
