Record Texas Alligator caught

I was fishing Choke one time and saw one that I'm shore was that big or bigger. He was sunning himself on the bank I gues we got to close for his comfort and he decided to get wet when he did we decided it was Time to go. He looked bigger than my boat witch was 16'.

Gators don't stop growing their whole lives. The older they get, the bigger. This gator might remember you from childhood, MC.

They don't get much bigger than that. Florida's record is 14'+.
La. has an old record that says the guy who invented Tabasco hot sauce killed one 19 feet, I think. It was forever ago so I doubt the validity of the claim (and measurement).

An alligator trapped Sunday by an Orlando man in a Brevard County lake broke the official state record for length.

Tres Ammerman, who traps gators as a hobby, caught the 14-foot, 3 1/2-inch male alligator in Lake Washington.

The previous official state record for length, set in 1997, was a 14-foot, 5/8-inch male alligator from Lake Monroe in Seminole County.

The 14-5/8 one weighed over 1000 pounds - that had to be something to get in the boat

What is that, 3 strips of electrical tape holding his jaws closed? You southern boys are cra-zy. I would have about 42 feet of steel banding and rebar and weld the sucker closed before I ever got within picture range of that bad boy.

I see some new boots, belt and holsters.

It takes very little pressure to keep a gator's jaws shut. Getting them shut is the issue!

I've heard that, and I don't care. It takes zero pressure to stay in Virginia. I am no fan of the gators.

Gators aren't nearly that bad IF you are alert for them and don't act like a dunce. I was wading in waist-deep water before dawn to get in position for some wood ducks at first light. I saw a ripple in the water and struck down hard with the stock of my shotgun. It hit the gator somewhere and it took off. They don't want a fight unless it's mating season. (April-June in my area)

Touristing in Sarasota, Florida, some sixty years ago, we were told that a gator at Texas Jim's Snake Farm was over fifteen feet.

I neither measured nor disputed.

I wonder how the tail would taste from such a large and old gator.

I don't think anyone who visits something called "Texas Jim's Snake Farm" should be concerned about alligators. That'd be more than enough Oh Heck No for me.

Also not sure how I'd feel about eating an animal known to have eaten lots of people. Blech.

A) I am a dunce
B) it's always mating season
C) any water that is waist deep and contains gators is not for me (see #2 above)
D) if you have the stones to calmly thwack down and punch gators while you duck hunt, then you sir are the most impressive man in the room. Any room.

Back around 1961, one of the Gainesville, Florida, cops told of getting a call from a concerned mom about a gator in a nearby pond where the neighborhood kids played. So the cop drives out to the pond, and sure enough, there are some kids.

He gets out and asks, "Say, do you kids know there's a big gator in that pond?"

"Oh, yeah, that's Mike." The kids start whistling and yelling, "Mike!" and sure enough, an eight-foot gator comes to the top of the water.

Insanity is hereditary. You get it from your kids.

Always be wary of Gators, whether in the swamp or on campus.

Hearty congratulations to the kid but still, it seems a shame that the beastie went down like that.

I kinda get the blues looking at "Boone & Crockett" rated trophies too though.

Not a judgement, just a perspective.

Years ago hunted a ranch south of Tilden, just west and south of Choke Canyon. Ranch bordered the Nueces River. We had lots of gators in the river and in all the stock tanks. They had an old hide tacked up in the barn there that was at least 13 ft. long. Never measured it, but it went from the ground up to the highest point in the barn. Got pictures of it somewhere, if I can find the album it's in, I'll post later.

Never liked gators. Lived and hunted in Florida for four years and ran into them from time time. The worst part however was coming across them in my neighborhood while walking the dog. They are faster than one would think.

American Crocs can get nearly that big...in Costa Rica. Still in Florida, they grow bigger than gators
