I agree with Hogbody. Keep what you have--as long as they function properly--and save to buy what you want. With one exception (a Taurus Judge that never worked right) I've regretted it every time I've sold a firearm.

They are YOUR guns, do what you want with them, save up for a .22 or trade for a .22.

You will have to decide if your guns are anymore than playthings that can in essence be swapped for other playthings

Just go out and buy a .22 you like and add it to the collection.

I personally end up selling just about every firearm I buy. I don't like collections, and owning piles of stuff. I buy them, enjoy them, then send them on their way. The only gun I have any personal attachment to, that I'll likely never sell, is my Browning Hi Power.

There's no reason to feel guilty about selling a firearm, nor is there any reason to feel like you have to answer to anyone else.

Buy the .22... KEEP what you already have! I'll probably stop at 13 but maaaaybe not.

I would keep my collection intact and pick up a .22. Something like the Ruger SR22, one of the short barreled Browning Buckmarks, or else a used SIG Trailside might be worth looking into.

Take a look at the the Bersa T 22. Picked one up on a whim and really like it.

I'm thinking I should cut back and liquidate a couple, since I don't regularly shoot them all and the ammo shortage has me concerned about having 3 calibers.

If your thinking about it, they are already at the no use stage IMO.. Sell or Trade them away and see if the next batch will work out.

I have no trouble trading or selling a gun in order to purchase something I want more, assuming the gun is not a family hand me down with sentimental value.

If the gunstores here did that, I would sell my stuff there.
Here you'll get about half what they will sell it for.

I agree with Bikerdoc, Picked a Bersa 22 in 3 way trade. It was a good thing that I shot it before it got trade off. Great small 22

Personally I have sold off my .40's & .45's and went with 9mm in Glocks, two 17L's & a G34. I also have a couple .357 snubbies similar to your S&W 642, both Rugers, an SP101 & a KLCR w/ CT grips which are my carry guns as I don't care to carry anything physically larger and I don't really care for compact semi autos. The combo of a full size semi for house and general use and a snubby for carry seems ideal to me, but to each their own.

Up to you how you go, but selling guns and especially ammo at this time ought to give you a nice return. I doubled my money when I sold my .45 acp ammo and made a killing via trade when I sold off my Kimber 1911. I'd make darn good and sure to keep a good stock of ammo on hand for whatever you keep.

No advice on a small .22 semi auto as my choice is an LCR-22 w/CT grip as an understudy to the KLCR. I do like it very much and it disappears in a pocket very easily. It also shoots very well especially with the aide of the CT's. If a small semi is how you want to go, I will say I've heard nothing but good regarding Rugers new SR-22, and at ~ $300 or so it seems like a good bargain.

can be a good thing in my opinion. Right now, finding ammo in any caliber is but having 3 different calibers should triple your odds of finding something to shoot. As for which 22 to buy, I love the Ruger mark II and III. If you need something smaller, I would consider their sr-22.

I was going to add the same thought. For some odd reason people thought "when things get scarce I can always find .22LR or 9mm or .223" I would always ask why they thought that, and almost invariably the answer would be "because they are the most popular". Now how much sense does that make?

But don't listen to me. I've NEVER sold a gun in my life. I kid you not. I tend to be a bit choosy - the only dud I ever bought was the S&W Bodyguard .380, which turned out to be such a terrible disintegrating piece of junk, I was the rare guy who got full money back on a gun. Oh and I did "win" the auction for two CZ-82's at the same time (thinking someone for sure would out bid me), but I have kept both. Oh and wait, there is the Baikal SxS 12ga that raps your knuckle pretty good when using the front trigger unless you have HUGE hands, I might actually sell that some day.

I never sell a gun to buy a gun I only get rid of what I no longer covet. Then I use it to buy what's next on the list to covet. I have yet to miss any one I've got rid of. Have to second the bersa since it is on my list and I like that walther look and a dependale bersa price.

I have some guns that I am attached to for one reason or another, but 80% of my guns are more or less treated as temporary investments. Basically, the Timbo plan is to shoot as many different guns as I can, keep what I like and filter out the rest. I just don't have the space for a large collection, and so I don't have a large collection. I have shot a lot of stuff though, so thats been fun.

And, in some cases, I get one gun that I like well enough that it sort of kills my interest in everything else. For (a non-pistol) example, I have owned three shotguns, and my last one, a Remington 870, so perfectly fits what I want in a shotgun that I have spent little to no time looking at anything else over the last decade or so. Oh, I have shot a few different shotguns that my buddies own or whatever, but at the end of the day that old 870 just fits me like a glove and thats all that matter. I am sort of the same way with hunting rifles, but when it comes to pistols, there is just too much cool stuff out there for me to lose interest.

Im the same way. No point in keeping something I am not 100% happy with.

You're worried about the ammo shortage, but you're talking about getting a .22 right now?

One fact to consider about having various calibers is that you will be able to find something you can use in times like these.

I sold a gun once, a Colt Anaconda 44 Magnum 6" barrel, circa 1992. Completely covered my purchase price, but I sure wish I had that gun back. C'est la vie.

I only keep what I really like.
