Well, I made the mistake of going to Murphy's thinking how I never find nice used pieces of XDs or Beretta 92s... lo and behold there were like 3 different XDs and 2 Beretta 92s and one 96. 9mm or 40 for both, the 96 in stainless, xd-40 in stainless... too many choices!

Well, got the XD-40 in stainless... but I would have liked another 9mm. Weird that they were just a little different in price, seems the Beretta resale value has dropped like the USP.

So, 1st, does anyone/is it possible for a 9mm conversion barrel to work with the 40 S&W slide. Seems that there are options for Glock people, why not XD people? (Fire Dragon maybe? Who sells them?)

2nd, how is the chamber support? It looks better than the Glock, haven't heard any problems, so it's okay as long as I don't try to do 10mm Auto in a 40 S&W case?

Good bye money... guess my Garand will wait a bit... it's too hot to shoot outdoors now anyways... right? :p

get a 9mm from Bar-sto...it will work IIRC...

Chamber support is better than the Grock...Nuff said:D

Congrats on your Springy...Mine is sitting on my hip as I type this...MYYY PRECIOUSSSSSSSSSSSSSS:cool:

I have no idea about the 1st, so I will let someone who is more informed answer that one.

About the 2nd; I do know that the XD's do have a supported chamber.

Dang! Not quick enough.

yes though only use it for range. you can even use the 40 mags and stuff 15 rounds of 9mm in them.

chamber support is good. should handle a good load in 40S&W.

barsto makes XD-40 9mm barrels though they cost $200 last I knew. little more and you can get a pistol new/used. Arcus 9mm Hi-power clone $230 from aimsurplus. more and get something you prefer.

Yeah that barrel price had me thinking similarly. I want a 40 barrel for my 357, but got to thinking I can probably pick up a used XD40 for under $400 and that comes with two mags worth $50 total that can be used in my other XDs. So essentially I am only $150 off from getting another pistol, and that is probably what I will do.

Ick, I found http://www.norecoil.com/ they carry the XD-40 9mm conversion barrel like the Bar Sto, but a little cheaper, but still 179.99 (and I already have an Arcus... it may be 9mm but not an XD :D ) I was hoping they would be more along the price like the Lone Wolf G22 conversion barrels at $109. For $200, that is a Swiss K31 and another Mosin Nagant rifle... :( Though $200 is still cheaper than another XD pistol, but is another really a bad thing? :D

I really wanted to be able to use the 40 S&W mags with 9mm, also since I have a small pile of Beretta 92 mags now that could be modified too. But also, the lower recoil of the 9mm would have been more agreeable with my wife, she might actually want to shoot it then. Maybe I will just go get one of the Beretta 92s... for her to use of course!

Thanks for the responses! Guess I gotta get some more .40 bullets and load some slightly softer loads for her now.

Who, I am in the same boat I got a honey of a deal on the XD40 even though I wanted the 9 I bought it. I got the XD40 with 4 mags for $360. I am planning on buy the 9mm barrel so I can shoot the cheaper ammo. With all of the Competitive shooting I have been doing the .40 is getting down right spendy. I guess it is only $5 a box difference, but that starts to add up when you are buying 8-10 boxes.
