I was listening to a science podcast and heard a discussion about the state of the world copper supply. I had imagined that we were at, or near, or even past, peak copper production. You often hear about criminals stealing copper tubing and flashing in the housing industry, and the prices of reloading supplies are not coming DOWN. However, the scientists on that show said that there was no foreseeable shortage on the horizon, and that we would not reach peak copper production for well over another century. Thats good to know.

The problem doesn't seem to be that there isn't any more to mine but rather that developing countries (such as China) are buying up about all that they can get. There's at least 2 scrap yards in my area that won't accept cartridge brass for the simple fact that they can't export it to China due to ITAR or US regulations. But those scrap yards are selling every bit of brass they get to the Chinese because they currently offering the best price. I imagine copper is pretty much the same way even though China is 4th behind Chile, US, and Peru in copper production.

The largest producer of Copper in the world is Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.

Their ticker symbol is FCX.
Their stock did best when China was building infrastructure the fastest.

I spend some of my time arguing with other investors.
I know, from listening to myself argue, that I am not a believer in peak oil, peak Gold, peak Copper, nor hyper US inflation.

Even the paranoid kook's prediction of peak Copper comes long after I will be dead.

Just because there is plenty of copper around doesn't mean the price of ammo will come down. It should but it won't. They are using every excuse in the book to raise and maintain high prices, just because they can! They were blaming the increases on raising metal prices but the price of the components went up no more than 20% yet they raised the price of ammo 100% to 150%, that doesn't compute as they say!!!

We are our own worst enemies because during this latest shortage many showed the manufacturers how much they were willing to pay for ammo. Now that they know prices will never go down, thank you very much people, well done. :fire:

The good news is all raw materials including fossil
Fuels are all in unlimited supply . god gave us all we need to flourish on this earth and we just have to find the stuff.

American investment Banks are now starting to hoard and manipulate the U.S. Copper supply, as they have been doing with the U.S. Aluminum supply for the last few years.

I am working for a contractor at the Freeport McMoran mine in Morenci Arizona and they are in the middle of a massive rebuild of a concentrator and Moly extraction plant.
They are running three SX-EW plants right now and there is a steady stream of flatbed loads of copper going out the gate daily.
There is enough copper ore there to last another 150 years.

I have also done work at the Safford Az Freeport mine where they only have one SX-EW plant operating but still a string of flatbeds going out all day long.

The copper out of the SX-EW pants is all going into domestic production and copper concentrate is being shipped to China for smelting there. Freeport also has a mine in Indonesia that is shipping copper into China and Japan at a pretty good rate.
