Ok guys let's say you live in a area where it is legal to carry a gun in your car. So I ask you if you do carry in the car where do you keep it glove box, console, other. I like to keep mine in the glove box for now.

Thanks Horsemen61

^^ Mine's on my hip as well.

But, I deliver pizza one night per week. In that role, I like to have a second one readily-available for vehicle "rush-ups." That one is typically placed in an empty pizza delivery bag on the right front seat next to me.

I have a "Truck gun" that is always in the console. My everyday carry is on my hip unless I am going to, or home from work, where I cannot carry.

I devised a car holster (using an old holster and Velcro) for my car's center console bin.

I don't like it in the glove compartment because it is too long of a reach from the driver's seat. Another tip: don't keep your registration in the same place as your gun. If you're pulled over by a LEO, reaching for your papers and revealing a gun could lead to a misunderstanding.

I have an under the seat gun vault "safe" under the front passenger seat...actually it is slid into the back seat floorboard while I am driving, and back under the seat when parked. I can reach it easily (more easily than if it is in my pocket or hip). I am tall and have long arms so reaching it is no problem.

Mine truck gun in my console. I also keep a nano safe under the seat to secure it when curious fingers may be about. I keep a cheap kydex holster clipped to the side of my truck's door for quick access if I'm in an area where I might want the gun in a hurry.

Generally on my person, or it sits between the drivers seat and the transmission tunnel, very close to my right hand.

When I carry in a vehicle, its IWB at 4 o'clock, same as always. I can draw it smoothly while seated, driving, without any difficulty.

I delivered pizza for about a year in the past. This was at a time when I never carried a firearm. So I had just dropped a pizza off at a regular customer's home, and had returned to my vehicle and started the engine. I never looked at my tip in front of the customer - just pocketed it, said thanks, and left. So when I sat in my car, I pulled out the tip and checked to see what I was given. It was about 9pm, in the late Fall, so it was already well past sundown. Suddenly I got a weird feeling and looked around, and saw a disheveled young man crossing the street toward me, at a jog. Maybe a split second later I realized he wasn't crossing the street at a jog, he was sprinting straight toward me, and his eyes were locked on mine. And I just knee he had malicious intent. I threw the car into gear and peeled out, and never looked back.

I know it probably took me longer to put the car in first, drop the e-brake while pumping the clutch and gas, and getting out, than it would have to draw a firearm... but I wonder how my life might be different if I did have a gun and chose to draw it. Anyway... I'm not at all advocating that you abandon your firearm. Just that your post reminded me of my story and I wanted to share it. This was the first time in my adult life I felt like I was in any real danger from a person with ill-intent, who I could actually see up close and personal.

It is a secret I would not disclose, but if someone wanted to rob driver in car weapon of choice should be sawed off SxS shotgun with double triggers. Approach should be made from rear of driver side (most people are right handed). Obviously I would never commit a crime let alone felony with a dangerous weapon.
Permanent automobile weapon is obviously DA idea.

On my hip... Keeping a gun in the glove box isn't a good idea, it takes too long to get to.

If something bad is going to happen it's going to happen very quickly. Also, you should practice deploying your handgun while sitting in the car. Finding out there's a problem when your life is in danger is not a good time. (really LOL)

I was just thinking about doing the same thing, only with a DeSantis Insider that I was just going to clip over the side of the console.

I keep mine between my seat and the center seat. It's wedged there nicely and covered with an old t shirt that looks like shop rags.

When it's not on my side, its in the console.
I like the idea of making a holster that attaches to the console. I'm going to have to copy you there Lon Haranguer.

My system is a leftover from the days when Ohioans with CCWs had to open carry while in a vehicle. It's a holster mounted on the lap belt. Fits just like a crossdraw. When I get in, I click the belt, then transfer my CCW from 8:00 on my belt to 2:00 on the seatbelt.

When I drove cab part time during the early 70's, NYC was at it's worst.

Cabbies were getting robbed and killed with regularity, and a lot of drivers were picking and choosing who they were going to pick up, pretty much on a racial basis. Same for destinations: many wouldn't go to the Bronx, Harlem, or the Lower East Side (Alphabet City) which was a major heroin junky location at that time.

I couldn't in my mind do that, I picked up whoever hailed me.

I did, however, drive with a .38Spl. snubnose on the seat under my thigh, and a small .22 Beretta in my boot top.

Thankfully, never had a problem the entire time I drove.

I won't leave a gun in a car, so now it's either on my hip, or in my pocket.

I have my carry gun on me but couldn't get it out because of me sitting and the seat belt,
So I always have handguns in the vehicles that are easy to reach.
