BREAKING NEWS: Guns & Ammo Responds to Metcalf article

Hopefully they didn't outright fire him....they approved and published it afterall...

I will say that thinking the article would encourage a healthy exchange was seriously misguided though.

Look at your audience. I am sure many of their audience are perfectly willing to exchange ideas with those of a different mind...but they don't buy a magazine about guns to read articles about giving ground...

If their goal was healthy debate it could have been phrased better. Some very sweeping statements were made that if qualified down to just the example used would not have generated such outrage.

Wow. That's unequivical... a real rarity.

Dick Metcalf has been around a long long time....

For those of us who do not have a subscription to Guns and Ammo, what was the terrible article by Dick Metcalf?

Good grief!!

I read the article, and didn't agree with all of it.

I never did agree with everything Jeff Copper said there either!!

But, Metcalf has only been on the back page two or three months now, and they said when he started there would be some controversial things come up.

Another example of 2nd. Amendment sticklers 'Don't give an inch, or they will take a mile logic!!

I happen to agree with some of what Dick said.

With the current crop of 20-something whack-jobs and gang-bangers with no parents, no morals, and no scruples?

Maybe it is time for certain limits on free access to firearms without further background checks & at least some mental health reporting!!

So, you gonna fire me too??

My "guess"...

This is a business. A successful business requires profit. Profit requires customers. Maybe... they feared more losses of "us" than gaining of "them"?

The problem was with Mr. Metcalf's ignorance to the meaning of the word "regulated" in the 2nd Amendment. "regulated" in 1776 was a term defined by clock or watch makers as the precision of a time peace. A "well regulated" watch or clock runs perfectly with precision and accuracy. The idea was put forward that a "well regulated malitia" would operate with precision and authority, being well trained and well disciplined. Thus the reason for the wording.

Too bad people have difficulty understanding what our Founding Fathers were trying to tell us today!

This was Jim Beqette's mistake. Metcalf may have been off base,.but Bequette let it go to print.

G&A lost my subscription because of him. Maybe I'll subscribe again now that he's gone.

I think the only reason they are acting boldly now is because they know they screwed up.

Dick is entitled to his opinion, but he should know that there are times and places where you have to be careful what you say. But I still blame them for publishing it at least as much as I blame him for saying it.

I disagree with your opinion very much Mr.rcmodel and what follows is my reasoning for my disagreement(-Sam C.) So who gets to make the assumption of who if sane or not? That's a can of worms I don't wanna open. You just know the current crop of gun grabbers will abuse that diagnosis all they can.

.....and odds are the current crop of whack jobs and gang bangers already have a criminal record, so they wouldn't be allowed "legal" firearms anyway.

Yes, I think that's the dumbest post today.
Thank ya!
Thank Ya!!

But a few more 'Crazy Young Man with a Manifesto and an AR-15' shootings every week in the news?

And we are all going to be playing golf instead of shooting one of these days!

Mark my words!!

So your proposal to stop this is a mental background check too?

But we've already been down that path that proves that restricting access doesn't really stop those folk bent on Doing Bad Things. And you, rcmodel, of all folk should know that.

I couldn't agree more. The editor had to approve it before it went to print.

So, the apology by the editor appears heartfelt. I accept him at his word. Thank you.

Will Dick Metcalf step up and own this? I don't think so.

Metcalf doesn't believe he made a mistake. He will continue to criticize the RKBA base as less intelligent than he. Kind of the George Will v. Sarah Palin thing.

They went out from us, because they were not with us from the beginning. We'll take his vote and support when he helps, but we have to engage him and the gun control lobby when they unite like this.

Jim Zumbo erred, but came around. Metcalf ... the jury is out. His next gig may be with the Brady Bunch. They liked what he had to say.
