Guns & Ammo Television

Ah, te 1911. We'll have Kimber, Springfield, and S&W (with its new 1911) on the show. We have a Marine sniper doing his thing. That was fun. On one hilltop (in California), shooting across the vally (high winds) to targets on the other side. 500+ yards. .308 Winchester. Blowing away cinder blocks. Very cool.

There's even a little submachinegun action.

The .458 Lott is a MAGNUM handful, but Craig Boddington tells how to handle it.

Of course, there's the .500 S&W. A collector specializing in .44 Magnum S&W revolvers let me shoot his earliest version (before they were called the Model 29).

Winchester short magnums, .17 Hornady Rimfire, shotgun tips, muzzleloading stuff, and even ATVs. It moves fast. Jim Baker has the legislative angle covered.

I also think the studio segments are among the best I've seen for outdoor shows. If you look quickly, you'll see my custom .257 Roberts (it's the georgous left-handed Rem. 700) go by.

We worked our tails off, but the results were worth it.

Still looking for suggestions for things to include in next year's show.

Thanks for the info.

I'm looking foward to it after reading some more.

I really miss American Shooter and am hurting for a fix.

Dish network in my home was about to get replaced with cable but now it looks like I have to wait until cable puts OLN in their lineup.

Thanks guys.

I'm not happy with Bill Ruger or S&W either, but they are indeed
major innovators and contributors to the gun culture as a whole
and it would be dumb to exclude them.

Hopefully, they'll have more than bug-dollar firearms to show/test. All too often now, the gun rags are filled with high-priced models to showcase (advertise). While there are those that can readily afford these these fine pieces, it seems all to aften those folks that cannot afford the $2000+ AR's are left out. Personally, if 'm gonna spend that much money on a firearm, I'd not base my purchase on a test/advertisement in a gun rag, but rather from average people that already own one. that way there isn't the likelyhood of any "here, take this free gun for a while and play with it as a test for an article" bias.

I'll still likely watch the show.

G&A

I hope Guns And Ammo TV is better than G&A the magazine.

I picked a copy from the rack at Wal-Mart because it had an article on the 45 Glock. What did I read? Nothing new and some of the lamest writing I had read in a while.

Mr. Clapp did not even know how they were going to get the ballistics out of the shorter cartridge. He acted as if it were going to be magic!

That is why I quit buying it longer ago than I can remember. It plays to the lowest technical denominator. The sad thing is it didn't used to be that way.

Perhaps your show won't be that way. Here's hoping it will be a show worth watching.

Bravo..

I'm all in favor of providing more coverage that interests me. I've got Dish and look forward to seeing your show.

One suggestion:

Many people can't get your program AND

VHS is well on the way out..quality is poor.

How about some quality DVD's with a number of shows on each DVD, offered at a reasonable price? This way folks can partake regardless of TV reception.

I have recorded American Shooter to hard disk so that I can review the shows, but I might even buy a nice DVD to save me the effort.

Re: DVD's. I like the idea. I'll mention it to the powers that be.

Reminder. It is NOT OLN. It is the Outdoor Channel, which is not OLN.

So, when you ask the cable company, they may say, "Oh sure, we have the Outdoor Channel," when they are really talking about OLN.

If you have Dish or Direct, you can get The Outdoor Channel for $1.95. Don't let them tell you that you must buy a whole package. The Outdoor Channel is available a 'la carte.

G&A TV--I'm all for it! :D

I also hope that SHOOTING TIMES and AMERICAN HANDGUNNER/GUNS also gets into the "tele-magazine" business as well. The more the merrier. Also, with the competition, current shows like AMERICAN SHOOTER and AMERICAN RIFLEMAN will be encouraged to improve their production values to compete.

Another thing I'd like to see is GUN TALK to be televised like Howard Stern's & Don Imus' radio shows (filmed live during the show). Any possibility?...

Or the Mustang II, or the Focus, or the putting Perry Ting in charge of money, or the Tempo. LOL... Ford hasnt made a decent vehicle outside the truck line since 1974. Until the Mondeo and new model Crown Vics and the latest Mustangs. And then they went and killed the Mondeo in America... another smart move.

I gotta give Ford credit for one thing... they have thick skin and a lot of nerve to roll out that Focus.

And your supreme knowledge of the Focus is based on what? Another ignorant ??? commenting on what he knows not. Just what the world needs. Sure I don't like Ruger after his "honest man" b.s. but did you see me calling it out? Nope.

As for my last of the '02's Focus....12k miles and no problems. I must have got one of the rare "good ones". Or is it that after the first year they made all the changes and improvements necessary? Forgive my ignorance, for if it was your car company, you would have done it 100% correct the first time, I understand.

Wee bit sensitive today. Ehh?

How about constructive suggestions that might help us to get another fine TV format.

.45FMJoe must have a point. They went from 13 recalls (6 Safety, 6 General, and 1 Emissions) to no recalls at all in 2002. The Technical Service Bulletins look pretty standard not indicating any significant problems either except water leaking on the passenger floor area. The Focus has come a long way since its first inception. However, I'd rather own my Honda Civic than a Ford Focus 100,000 miles from now when it comes to trading in for a new vehicle.

Wish I was home long enough to do more than just eat and sleep. I might actually consider getting cable or dish.

What would I like to see on a gun show? Hmm, how about practical techniques for practicing? Some different COF's with times and reasoning.....and then tune in next week for some critique and a new lesson. It could be like going to high school again, with homework and such.

It's really neat to see a trick shooter nail an egg at 100yd with a snub-nose revolver, but what good does that do me? I love the idea of somebody nailing a balloon with an arrow, after bouncing it off half-a-dozen ramps, but how does that improve my knowledge base?

We definitely need to see how guns and ammunition is made. Take a tour of the different factories just like they do on This Old House. Show me Remington, Springfield, Winchester, Colt, ProLoad, and whoever else will let us behind closed doors. That would be too cool.

I guess you could say that I want educational television, not baby food for the brain.

Oops... I dissed someones favorite car.
Sorry - I didn't mean to step on your manhood.

Ford Focus Issues:
Let's not look at the fact the Focus has more recalls than any other car:
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news02/ford_focus.html
http://www.safetyforum.com/fordfocus/recalls.html
Or that Regulators are investigating the thing...

Brakes:

Air Conditioner causing the engine to stall:

Fuel Tank Sensor:

Alternator:

It's not just me... or the cars in the US... they have issues with the thing in the UK too:

Maybe you did get a "Good One".

Now - if you want to make personal insults. Take it to email. Because that is not tollerated on THR. Even if you are insulting a Moderator. Like it's my fault you spent money on a Foci... You can insult me all you want off line. Only "12K miles with no problems"? Nice. Talk to me about your car after 100 miles. Then we can talk about what you and I know.

George Hill--I'm not going to take issue with you on the Ford Focus. Geez this thread took a turn (sorry Guntalk). However, some of your sources seem biased and it's hard to sort out the bias on the net (i.e. www.fordfocusbrakeproblems.com). Someone obviously set out to trash Ford when they chose that domain name. Like I said, I'm not taking issue with you. However, you can take a look at the official TSB's (Technical Service Bulletins) for any automobile at www.alldata.com

The Focus went from 13 recalls in 2000 to zero recalls in 2002. Heading in the right direction but I still wouldn't want to own one. I've been happy with my 2003 Civic EX. It's not a "manly" car but, like most "jap crap", it will be worth something when I'm tired of it.

Just a tad bit touchy. I hate armchair quarterbacks. Sorry if I went over the edge :D

Edit: no it's not my favorite...it's my commute to school and back everyday 4 cylinder that gets 30+ mpg.

For fun their is my '93 RamCharger 4x4. Best truck EVER! Start on that and I'll really go off ;) Can't begin to tell you what I've yanked from the mud in that thing. And my "cool" car is my '73 Dart 2 door. I say cool because it looks so bada$$ed with it's nose in the air because the engine is on a stand LOL.

Oh, right firearms.

I've never seen the show? Do you guys run specials on a certain gun's life history? Say a bit dedicated to the Python or Detective Special or SAA or Official Police or 1911 or..... I know, I'm totally biased towards Colt. Oh well.

how about a segment for newby shooters? something for people who are new to shooting. basic stuff that all of us can learn from (or be reminded about)

and some reloading segments might be nice.

No more recalls?
Sure... but the Ford Focus still has problems with under the hood electrical fires.

"I hate armchair quarterbacks."
You mean "I hate people who disagree with me".

Taking things way too personal and calling it Touchy? I've done that before. Usually in the mornings before I have had my roast beef hash and Vanilla Coke but sometimes when I'm tired and had a headache.

Let's get back to the gun show.

I would really like to see a good Ted Nugent segment. Ted is one character in the Pro-Gun arena that is either over looked, or over played. Reporters who interview him give very slanted opinion pieces about him, take his words out of context, and try to make him look like a freak. But a guy like him has a lot of good value as a gun nut and all around good guy. Wish I could hunt virtually year round like he can! A segment on him showing off his gun collection highlights, what he carries and why... that would be interesting... and same thing about his wife... Very interesting couple. That would be some good TV.
Another interesting TV segment would be about putting a gun magazine together... how it happens... problems... some interviews with the gun writers. John Taffin would be a good interview. So would Rob Pincus of SWAT Magazine - if you could keep the camera on him long enough. I tried once. I had to run and jump shrubbery to keep up.
I'd also like to see some more focus on Personal Defense issues instead of a general gloss over a number of industry topics. It would be very cool if you could do the show "for an educated audience" instead of talking down to us like what the NRA's "American Guardian" effort did. I thought the American Guardian was almost insulting.

FWIW....

looking thru the above posts....

it seems that THR has taken a somewhat of an ugly turn for some reason

dunno what the personal "axe-to-grind" is, but it's something I'm unaccustomed to on this forum

seems like the RKBA crowd oughta stick together

I for one will be WAY happy to see another shooting show

after watching 37 re-runs of "Gilligan's Island" or 119 infomercials for the lastest ab-trainer, I'd be HAPPY to see something related to shooting. I think I'm intelligent enough to make my own decisions

of course, I'd never buy anything Ruger

'cept the lovely little 28 gauge Red Label in my safe....

or the .45 LC Bisley I have.....

or the M77 .300 Win Mag.....

hmmmmm......odd.........if Bill Ruger hated people owning guns so much......

why do so many people own so many of his........??????????

George, the recall affected 2000 models only if I recall. Maybe '01's. Again, first year production bugs. Weren't you ever told, or figured out on your own you NEVER buy the first years production car as it is bound to have problems and recalls?

I got no problem with you having your opinion, but boasting it like it's gospel is kinda annoying. Do you even own a Focus? Have you ever driven one? Have you ever auto-crossed in one and consistantly beat Mustangs and Camaros?

I have. Of course, with the auto-X, I cut my teeth on my Camaro but the Focus handles soooo much better. Funny, it was an IROC Camaro too, which was setup from the factory to handle. Oh well.

Oh and as for the brakes, dude what the hell rock have you been living under? Ford disc brakes have sucked since Ford came out with disc brakes. Our delivery van went through rotors and one caliper at 8k miles. Stuff happens, that's why God invented the 5 year/57k mile unlimited bumper-to-bumper warranty for an additional $20 a month. I happily pay that extra few beans to Ford Credit every month. Every little thing that has gone wrong has been fixed at no direct cost to me.

Usually in the mornings before I have had my roast beef hash and Vanilla Coke but sometimes when I'm tired and had a headache.

Forget the cars, there goes my breakfast. Roast beef hash isn't appetizing but Vanilla Coke! That's vile! Blehh!

Back to topic. I'll watch the show just because it's more gun tv. I'll just tune out the Ruger crap.

Is there anyway they might let the writers and editors do more real stuff?

I gave up on G&A several years ago, because after Ross left there wasn't much honest & comprehensive writing there. Seems like it is either one or the other.

Don't get me wrong I know more than a couple of the guys there can write and know guns, hunting, and shooting. Things that should be in print. I appreciate Col. Craig Boddington after reading his book (isn't he a general now?). But it seems like it is either edited down or the assignments dictate a certain spin.

I know Cooper has complained about the editing of his Corner.
