Top ten annoying gun things

Hunters who think they need a scope for deer hunting when the longest shot they will ever take is less than 100 yards.
 
I stay out of gun politics, I can't hear myself think over the blaring opinions of the far-far right and the far-far left. I agree with setting a good example odor gun owners. It makes it easier for non-gun owners to not question 2ndA rights.

Wholeheartedly agree -- When I hit 45 to 50 my close up vision has gone south and accuracy with open sights is not what it use to be.

Things that kill me
-- People not being safe with their weapons
-- People who fiddle with their guns while a cease fire has been called
-- People who shoot at my targets because they forgot to bring theirs
-- Brass scroungers, who do not ask

I agree with #1. Bipods. What happened to weight saving or using a rock/knapsack as a rest? Bipods can get snared on branches, creating more movement as the bush sways back and forth.

I like the term "Brass Vultures". More fitting.

Once, I told this guy, I reload and it is my brass. So, he goes to the next lane and is picking up brass as a father is teaching his son how to shoot. Really boils the blood.
 
The fat and ignorant guy reinforcing all of the negative stereotypes bothers me.

Jeff Cooper bothered me because he was utterly incapable of accepting an opinion other than his own (a permutation of the same problem expressed above). I know this opinion will likely bring a crapstorm my way but I never really thought Cooper was a net plus for the firearms community, at least in his later years.
 
The use or is it misuse of the words sniper or tactical when mentioned in the same sentence with 22 caliber rimfire anything ?

Anything other than a scope, sling or flash hider mounted on an AR.

Pistol grip (only) shotguns.

Fake suppressors.
 
Phony "gun show commandos" who tell you all about their military career, ad nauseam, in a theater of operation their age precludes them from ever having participated in.

Guys who might have been in the military, but are all past members of whatever elite unit their branch of service had. There must have been millions of SF and Seals, because I'm sure I've met half of them.

People who load their weapons up with so much "tactical" equipment, it could never be used, or carried for that matter.

Guys so out of shape, but who insist they're still covert operators as they regale you with war stories while wearing their camouflage Crocks.

Hearing the word "tactical" applied to anything, ever again.
 
Not too many "gun things" bother me. There's a lot I'm not into, but if it floats another' boat then so be it. The more people into all the various aspects of gun ownership the better. Of course, Mossberg's tactical lever action was just atrocious!
 
tomrkba, is it ok if I deer hunt and use a scope for shots under 100 yards if I'm almost 60 and my eyes don't focus on the iron sights real well anymore?
 
People who badmouth a gun or product for a gun strictly from it having a low price point and little to no experience with it. And their claim you always get what you pay for regardless of possible value.
 
As long as people are being safe and courteous, I mind my own business and let people have their fun as they see fit.

I generally only get annoyed by two things.

#1: People who don't know what I am doing trying to criticize or control me. This includes the know-it-all at the range who criticizes my group sizes (I had a guy tell me that my 8"@7 yard group -firing for speed with each shot from low ready- was too small for real world shooting; his group was 20" @3y) the ATF employee who decides a bullpup does not have a "sporting purpose" and bans import, or the legislator who votes for the infringement du jour.

#2: Myself, when I miss a shot I should be able to hit.

Willful safety violators (e.g. people who point guns at people and say, "it's not loaded") get something beyond mere annoyance.
 
I don't understand the point of looking at what other people have/do/want and that becoming a pet peeve. As long as they are safe, we can get along just fine.

I don't drink beer and think it is a horribly unhealthy and gross choice... But it doesn't become a pet peeve that others enjoy it.
 
I find it amazing that this thread is considered "High Road" at all because it doesn't seem to have anything positive to do with firearms or the members here but since a moderator made the second post I am supposing it is acceptable so I'll add my opinion.

1. People who think that they should be able to control what others own. It would seem to me that is the core of why we choose to own weaponry.

Also the thread is a somewhat negative perspective of ourselves or others who support firearm ownership, tho I feel we can better identify areas to change in the firearm community by having a comvorsation about it.
 
Seriously man, a buddie and I went to a range where this guy showed us an M1917 .30 machine gun with about 2k rounds linked ammo. My buddie asked him "man, when are you going to break that out?!" The guy answered "it's for the zombies, I'm saving it for the apocalypse." I think I broke my nose I face-palmed so hard.

In a way I can understand this. Not the zombie part, but his reluctance to shoot a valuable gun, with expensive ammunition. He's proud of it, so he showed it to you. But you can't expect him to shoot it, for your sake but with his ammunition and his labor in cleaning the gun afterwards. Did you at least offer to pay for the ammo? Or for the inevitable wear and tear on the gun?

I'll bet that the zombie part was just his tactful way of telling you the above without getting personal.

From this, you can probably tell that, as a machine gun owner, one of my top ten annoyances is people wanting to shoot my guns. In the past, every time I have let them do it, I have regretted it.
 
In retrospect, the solution to the problem of me being brass-showered was simple: "Hey, man. Can we swap benches?"

The only time I got miffed at a range was when I was just about to touch off a round and a guy beside me decided to walk up range while rapid firing his 9mm auto.

So, I guess that's my one and only pet peeve. People who move forward of the firing line.

Yup, that more than a little upsetting.
 
The use of the term "packin heat" particularly by media and TV personalities. To me, the phrase somehow minimizes the seriousness of carrying a firearm.
 
Has to be the phrase "an answer to a question nobody asked". Show me any time that phrase has been used and I'll show you a pretty obvious "question".
