Press a button, and the target comes to you.
Coming from Illinois we don't have outdoor ranges, although I wish we did.
A better solution to leaving firearms on your bench pointed downrange, is to rack them if you don't have a sling. This would especially work for firearms that do not have provisions for a bold hold open, like an AK.

But really, a firearm with the action open, and optionally with something placed in the action, such as a flag (or even a pen stuck in there if there's no bolt hold open), that nobody is touching, is 'safe'

That's why I'm working on a top secret handgun retention device, and I'm hoping to patent it soon. It's a method of securing it to your body, by means of plastic or leather, whichever you fancy, inside or outside the waistband.
Don't tell anyone though, I wouldn't want this technology to become deeply established and widespread, before it sees use with civilians, law enforcement, or military.
Well, what do you think? As far as inventions go, wheel here I come!

I think it must be annoying to have to carry, on your person, the gun(s) you want to shoot when you go to the range.
I sometimes like to bring and shoot two or three but don't really feel like carrying all three on me at all times.
If that suits your fancy, more power to you.

Nothing about guns is annoying. Nothing.
People are annoying. People make up all the stupid zombie prepper 1911 Glock AK AR, etc. garbage. People come up with poor designs and all the extra crap you can hang on a rail. People have poor trigger discipline. People play video games and think it's real. We all have pet peeves about certain guns, much like cars. We like what we like, regardless of others' opinions.
Some of us simply shoot certain designs better than others. How does it shoot (in your hand(s))? That's all that matters. Be aware of surroundings, but mind your own business and keep your weapons pointed downrange - if one is interested in your opinion of their 30-lb AR with more crap on it than a customized Jeep, they'll ask (or wave it in your face to try and impress you).

Range masters hovering over me while I shoot.
Range masters touching my stuff while I'm down range changing targets.
Other shooters bothering me to use my spotting scope while I'm engaged in shooting.
And all others who just don't leave me alone with questions, and, or telling me what I'm doing wrong while I'm shooting
Oh, and pink firearms, hunting gear, and everything else made pink!!

Range cadre; staff.....
I see the point about safety officers/cadre.
I have no issue with any liability wavers or safety briefing prior to any lane or range use, but I agree; it's annoying when some RO lingers around.
The one place I go is fairly modern & well run. The chain(a national corp) has CCTV & DV cameras in all the lanes. If there's a problem or AD, I'm 100% sure they will deal with it quickly.
During one trip, the safety commander was a delightful old chap with a Beretta 9000S 9mm in a Blackhawk SERPA 1911 holster.
I'm not a Teddy Tactical or Mall Ninja so I don't draw much notice. I wear Tru-Spec & 5.11 stuff sometimes or logo T shirts(Glock, NRA, etc) but I don't stomp or pontificate 2A issues with total strangers.
