Just considering this gun p290rs, 279 on a black Friday deal.
Any good ?
CM9 is my other consideration for 329 as I have a few Kahrs already and love them.

I have a shield 40,LCP,Cw380,CW9 as carry guns now.
my cw380 is my main carry in summer now replacing the LCP.

Sounds like a good deal to me. The 290RS has a very nice trigger, similar to the Kahr, but a little heavier (not always a bad thing... absorbs recoil).

I'd get it, if it were me.

I have a pretty strong dislike for the P290/P290RS, but that's a very nice price.

I have both the CM9 and the P290rs. Love 'em both.
The 290rs is heavier but that just makes the recoil softer.
The CM9 is lighter, recoils harder but I carry it more in the
summer due to it's light wt. Both have great, almost
identical triggers. If I had to chose between the two I'd
go with the CM9 ONLY because of something that has
nothing to do with guns. I like lasers, CT instinctive lasers
to be exact and CT does not make one for the P290rs.
SIG does make a laser but it's activated by a button on
the laser and not by pressure of the shooters hand. If it
wasn't like that, I honestly can't say which one I'd chose.
Glad I don't have to make a choice. ;)
My P290rs likes a heavier bullet, shoots 147 gr Hornady
XTP best. The Kahr CM9 is the opposite. It likes the 115g
round best and shoots the 115gr Critical Defense like the
cartridge like it was made for it.
Remember the CM9 needs at least 200 round break in
time. Mine, on the last round in the mag for the first 150
would not reset the trigger. I could touch it from behind
and the it'd fire. The next 150 rounds I fired it worked
fine and has ever since. The SIG didn't need any break
in. I fired 100 rounds of mixed wts and power when I
first got it and it functioned flawlessly and has ever since.
Good luck on your choice. Let us know what you do.

The P290RS seems to be a gun that people either love or hate. I like mine enough that I just got a second one as a back up due to the price. I carry my 290 a lot when high capacity isn't a consideration.

As noted, the somewhat heavier weight helps with recoil, and the full size sights are a big help in shooting a gun this small accurately.

I carry a p290rs daily. I love that its double action, make me feel a lot more comfortable carrying it as opposed to a striker or single action . easily small enough for me to carry on job sites, wearing carpenters pants and an undershirt. just drop it in my front pocket. It is heavy but I never notice the weight while I carry it.
its accurate enough to drill bowling pins consistently at 10 yards.

now for the downside... pretty darn high bore axis

I did have issues with light strikes but after polishing the firing pin channel and the trigger/hammer/mainspring assembly its 100% reliable.

I love my 290. It is pre-RS. It had to go back to SIG and came back quickly and repaired. The hammer wouldn't fall to hit the pin. They upgraded the trigger and the mag release. I actually prefer the pre-RS trigger as it seems a bit lighter and smoother than the RS. That said I would be just as happy with the RS. I don't find the restrike feature necessary as I tap/rack. An interesting feature is that the trigger can be reset by pulling the slide back a dead minimal amount, at most one-eighth inch.

The gun shoots well and is reasonably accurate at 15 yards, as much as I would require for its intended use. My best results have been obtained with a smooth even stroke of the trigger. Stacking seems to cause accuracy to degrade. In self defense use I don't see that as a viable anyway. The gun features full sized sights which may be a bit less important for self defense, but are still quite nice.

As to carry, while the 290 is heavier than other guns in its class I can easily carry it in a pocket holster, especially in cargo pants. Any heavier and it would be noticeable.

This is indeed a love it or hate it gun. Early teething problems, now a thing of the past, didn't help. I consider it to be vastly underrated. At $279 I would but two.

One for you and one for me?
