Opinions sought: Which .308 variant for mid-range precision shooting?

    1) 260 Rem.. been shooting NMC (200, 300, 600 yards) and LR (800,900, 1000 yards) with it for a decade. Works great. 1:8 twist 2) 7mm-08. 1:8.5 twist 3) no variant, 308 Win, 1:10 twist

Do people still shoot .260 Rem?

To answer your original question: Yes. And yes, there are quite of few 6.5mm cases out there. I haven't shot 260 Rem for LR since this weekend in my Pre 64 Win M70 across the course rifle. This has cleaned every yard line of the LR course (sadly, not this week end..but NOT the rifle or...

    Recently purchased M1A

Concidering the price of just a reciever ($600-$750 depending), USGI ops rods are over $200, bolts are at least $100 now. So, no you got ripped off and I, being the nice guy I am, will give you $850 right now.

Who has worn out an ar15 barrel

Better question would be: since Kenny Gill won the National Service Rifle Championship with an M-16 in 1994, who hasn't worn out at least one AR-15/M-16 barrel? Where do you see it first? The 300 yard rapid. You have to load to magazine length here, thus you'll have the jump to contend...

    break in period

Many BR, LR, and varmint shooters do a break-in procedure. Go to Kreiger's website for thier take on it. Seeing that they make some of the best barrels going, it should be good start. All that said, I've never had the self discipline to do it. As an example, just last week I finished my...

    .308 to 6.5x284 L Re-Barrel

The bolt face is the same diamter (0.473"). The 6.5x284 is a rebated rim as the body diameter is 0.500". If you are planning on running these through a magazine, this MAY cause some issues. Further, the 6.5x284 can end up being a bit longer than the 308Win. Again, if you're going to be using...

    260 Rem Pet Loads?

My 26" long 1x8" Krieger likes 142 SMK and 40.0 gr of VV540...work up to that as it can be warm in some chambers. my 22" 1:9" M-1A won't handle the long 142s well, it does seem to like 123 SMK and IMR4350...deciding upon how much right now.

need professional advice on a 6.5mm rifle buy/build

Read Kludge's post. Just because you have a rifle that is capable doesn't mean you are capable every time. And just because you're capable at least some of the time, doesn't make it smart or ethical.

Is a 220gr SMK too much for a 300 Win Mag

The 220 SMK is a fine long range bullet for a 300 Win Mag. The primairy reason to go with heavy for caliber projectiles is higher BC, which translates into less wind deflection. Since High Power matches are shot at known distances, the drop isn't a big deal: it will remain stable (providing a...

    Need some options.....

Consider a Douglass for the barrel. The M70 will not directly screw onto a M98. Nothing wrong with a synthetic stock....depends on what it is. Injected molded plastic isn't anything like a high quality fiberglass or kevlar stock. Beware of the old saying: you get what you pay for. Might...

    6.5 build

I jumped on the 6.5mm bandwagon in 1988. Oh wait, there was no 6.5mm bandwagon in 1988. In fact everybody and their pet moose told me that a 6.5mm would eat barrels (for some reason .257" and .277" did not). I've made rifles in 6.5 BR (rebated the rims so I can use them in an AR), 6.5x55...

    The Krag Reputation

Looks like you found a very nice Krag. They are not as strong an action as the Mauser, but no one who spent time shooting one would say they lack anything in the accuracy department and their bolt throw is smooth as can be.
