    147gr JHP at 1,000fps

I was able to find a pound of BE-86 locally. I loaded up some test rounds and was able to chrono them today. These are all using Zero’s 147gr JHP loaded to 1.112”. Temperature was 55 deg F. Barrel length is 4 inches. In case anyone is interested, here’s how they came out. 4.5gr 938fps...

Thanks for the data points. It looks like Alliant’s BE-86 data is pretty to close yours and others’ actual results.

    147gr JHP at 1,000fps

Folks, I appreciate all of the replies, but I feel they aren’t answering my question. I’m just wondering if N350 or BE-86 might be good choices to achieve my objectives. I know what the manufacturers’ data say. It has been my experience that manufacturers’ data is always optimistic when it...

    147gr JHP at 1,000fps

I have brought that same question up with Western at least twice, but they keep referring me to the GS data. 5.2gr Silhouette gave me 990fps. This is the load I settled on when I still had Silhouette. It was close enough. BTW, when I chrono the HST’s, they come in at 1014fps.

    147gr JHP at 1,000fps

I am trying to work up a load using Zero 147gr JHP’s to replicate the standard pressure 147gr HST. I would prefer to stay at standard pressure if possible, and within “book” max loads. I have tried N340, Silhouette, and True Blue. From a 4 inch barrel, I am getting: 4.3gr N340: 960fps 5.5gr...

    9mm +P with Silhouette

Sierra's manual goes up to 6.1gr of Silhouette with their 125gr JHP, so maybe I could go up to 6.0-6.1gr. Since I'm only seeing about a 20fps gain for each additional 0.2gr of powder, that might only get me to the mid 1120's. I don't want to push it. I've been happy with N340 for years and...

    9mm +P with Silhouette

I misspoke (mistyped?) when I wrote 1200fps. I'd be happy if I could reach 1140-1150fps with the Silhouette. With the plated bullets, Ramshot shows loads up to 6 or 6.1gr. I'm just not sure how that translates to my Zero jhp.

    9mm +P with Silhouette

Is there a better alternative in a non-flake powder to get to, say, 1200fps ? N340 will come close, but as we all know, it's pricey.

    9mm +P with Silhouette

I usually use 5.4gr of N340 with a Zero 125gr JHP, COL=1.112. This load gives me 1145fps from a 3.8 inch barrel. I don't like to exceed published load data. I was trying to work up a comparable load with Silhouette, and was disappointed that the velocities I achieved were on low side. Are...

    New FNX pistols

This pistol looks very interesting. The trigger pull may be great out of the box (I don't know....I've never tried one), but if it isn't, does the FN shop do any kind of custom work like a trigger job ? Or do they strictly handle repair/warranty work ?

    Powder lot-to-lot variation

Thanks for the replies. I thought there would have been more. I wonder if that is indicative that most people don't recheck their loads when switching lots, or indicative of nothing at all.

    Powder lot-to-lot variation

I'm just curious....for those of you who check such things, how much variation have you noticed switching from one lot to another of a particular powder ? Was the variation enough to cause you to alter your load ?

    Cylinder & Slide's Dunk-Kit and Striker-Fired Guns

Does anyone have any experience using Dunk-Kit to clean striker-fired guns ? Is there any problem with the residual oil Dunk-Kit leaves behind interfering with the movement of the striker ? I generally hear that one should avoid getting oil in the striker channel, but was wondering if...

    Ruger SR9 Question

I believe Patrick Sweeney is a more than reliable source for shooting-related information. I have four of his books on 1911's and AR-15's and they are excellent, plainly written, and full of useful information rather than fluff. If I had to guess, I would say that normally, when dry firing a...
