Problem with my 788 Solved....
Thanks for all the advice. The barrel of my 788 was touching at a VERY SMALL spot at the right front of the stock forearm. Earlier this week I relieved the area by very lightly sanding the stock at that spot. The group I shot at the range this morning came in...
Thanks for all the info!
I really appreciate all the time you guys have taken to post here. My 788 has become sort of a project for me as I feel it has potential if I keep at it. The barrel now passes the "dollar bill test" on floating and just a small amount of sanding was needed. Next...
Was wondering if anyone could offer some advice on how to go about getting my Remington 788 in .308 rifle to group from a cold barrel. Right now it will only hold a group after at least six shoots are run through it and the barrel warms. First shot from a clean, cold barrel hits about 4 inches...
Remington 700 Stainless w/Special 5-R MilSpec
Shot my new Remington 700 Stainless with Special 5-R MilSpec .308 barrel today and so far so good. I don't handload so I just shot what I had available. 100 yards off the bench using 165 gr. Federal Premium BTSP hunting ammo resulted a group of...
I just bought a Remington 700 that recently arrived new in box at my local gun shop. It is a stainless Remington 700 with a 24 inch heavy barrel in .308. The stock looks to be similar to what was on a Sendero rifle I owned I a few years ago…possibly an HR Precision? Barrel is 24 inches...
Thanks!
I appreciate the info! Looks like the M29-2 I am looking at was made in 1977 according to a call I just made to Smith & Wesson. Also, as you said the 6 1/2" barrel would be correct. Thanks again and good shooting! Art G.
I am looking at buying a Smith & Wesson Model 29-2 over the internet (Gunsamerica) but I have a question. The seller says that the gun has a 6 1/2 inch barrel but the serial number has an N prefix (N365XXX). Did any of the N prefix Model 29-2 come with a 6 1/2 inch barrel? I thought that the...
I have a S&W 642-2 Airweight. My question is whether it would be possible to have the frame refinished and who would you recommend? Also, if possible I would like it to be done with something dark in color and durable. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Art G.
Well, thanks for the responses. I recently acquired an Anaconda that Colt said was made in 1990. Haven't shot it yet but I heard about some problems (after I bought this gun of course). Will just have to shoot it and find out what I have (or don't have). Art G.
Any quality control issues when they first came out?
Just curious.....Any quality control issues when they first ones came out...such as with the gun not being very accurate? Art G.
I recently bought a Colt Anaconda that apparently is from the Colt custom shop. Came with paperwork that says it is “First Edition†1 of 400. Serial number is MM003XX. What I would like to know is when it was made.... but I really don’t want to have to send Colt $100 to find out. Any...
Ok, I am obviously not an expert on Remington 870 so excuse the question if I am missing the obvious... Why and when did Remington change the slide and action bar configuration to include the extra notch on the left side of the slide and the corresponding extra tab on the action bar? In other...
