    M1a receiver replacement

What i thought was a pin was just a blemish from a previous scope mount. Nuttin to it. I just need a heavier work table or bolt this one down. I am replacing the receiver because it cracked at the rear from an out of battery detonation a while back. The post is on THR somewhere.

    Rebarreling a Mauser?

Yeah LJ, somebody sent me a message about gun work. Most of the barrels I have found require lathe work. I do not have lathe(s) to get stuff done and used short chambered barrels. I have not seen many lately while looking on the net.

    Rebarreling a Mauser?

Hey LJ. Too bad you aren't nearby my garage. We could do it over a weekend or some other day off. I have put together a 30-06 , a .308, and two 6.5 swede from my mausers. Buying/renting the gear (using a short chambered barred) is an unrecoverable expense but from the prices I am seeing, go...

    Rem. Extractor Problems

I have finally figured out what happened. I have an old style riveted extractor and it broke off. It took me two of the spring type replacements before the light finally went off. The correct stuff is on the way.

Picked up a couple Mausers today...a couple questions for the experts

I think I kept two in as-is condition. I took all the others apart for builds of other calibers. You just can't get enough mausers. Mix and match is Ok because my philosophy is that it the barrel or reciever is electro stamped with an importer then I don;t have a complely origional to worry...

    Canadian Imperial 303 Brit brass

Got a couple of boxes of Canadian Imperial 303 British brass from a friend down in Fla. Neck sized and trimmed this evening and getting ready to reload. Any heads-up for me on this brass? Looking forward to seeing how it shoots. I have some PPU and Winchester that I have worked on also...

    Rem. Extractor Problems

Speaking of Rem extractors. I have a 40XBR that I bought about 8 years ago from a 'target' gun shop/gunsmith. (He really is a statewide recognized competitor). I noted that the shell did not eject when the bolt opens and the gunsmith told me that he took it out because it detracts from...

    M1A for Ar10???

An M1A with a walnut stock can't be beat for cool factor and class. It has it's own niche for competitions and I don't compare it to the AR10.

Mosin Nagant accuracy with & without bayonet [Revisited]

I have found the cure for the short front sight post. I found a video on how do drift the front sight off so the post can be punched out through the bottom. A longer replacement post can be made from RCBS headed de-capping pins. I start by trimming/grinding the pins to 16.3mm in total length...

Mosin Nagant accuracy with & without bayonet [Revisited]

OK. Went to the range yesterday with my 1942, 1943, and 1944 M/N's. Used some combloc 'sniper' ammo that I think I recall to be 174gr not attracted to a magnet stuff. Groups of 5 shots each. No photos at this time, maybe later if I get the floors clean, the yard straightened up, and the rest...

Mosin Nagant accuracy with & without bayonet [Revisited]

I may give it a try this coming week. I went to the range yesterday but it was COLD and WINDY. Made for a miserable day. I have Mosins from 41, 42, 43 and 44. I am going to also experiment with corking as an accurizing method. Results from my first outing were anywhere from 4in to 8in. I...

    Bersa Thunder .380 Opinions?

I like mine a lot because it shoots great and I actually use it to qualify for my CCW. The only thing I have to say is that you NEED to put thread lock (blue or gray 'loctite') on the handguard screws. They will work out and fall on the ground. If you do not find them then you will have to...

Primer Seating Depth For Berdan Primers

I reloaded some 8mm mauser today using the 7.62N primers from Powder Valley. *those guys are great*. I measure seating depth by passing my finger across the base of the case and feel for a slight depression. If none there, then I squeeze the hand primer again. Done. All rounds went bang and...
