Magazines
Does Smith and Wesson make a back up sized gun that will use your duty magazines?
For example, I carry a Glock M-23 and back that up with a Glock M-27. I can use the M-23 magazines in the M-27.
Just a thought.
Another vote
Another vote for it is better to have something than nothing.
I don't subscribe to the car / brakes analogy. With all due respect, I think that analogy fails since you use the car everyday. Of course, I guess you could define "use" as the act of carrying and then analogy...
Not really...
No, it's hardly noticeable. Good point, though.
I guess it would noticable / painful if you used a chest strap on a big back pack, though. I use it mostly with a two day pack and I don't use the chest strap on the pack.
Bad thing is, to carry concealed, you must...
My words of advice...
I had this stainless Ruger GP .357 with a 4" barrel that I loved. I carried it in a cheap nylon holster when canoeing and camping.
One day I rolled my kayak...and that was the last I saw of Mr. Ruger. I didn't realize it at the time, either. I noticed down the river...
Back Pack Rig
This is what I can my Glock M-23 in:

Works well and is concealable. I particularly like it when I canoe because it is accessable while seated in the canoe.
Kinda spendy like the safepacker, though.

I have a Bushmaster AR-15 and my wife has a Smith and Wesson M&P AR 15. The fit, finish and quality are excellent. To date, running cheapo ammo, they have ran flawlessly. We shoot iron sights so both and both are more accurate than we are.
Both...
I went from a Glock M-27 to a S&W 642.
I found that I carried routinely with the 642 in my pocket than I did trying to conceal the Glock. I figured it was better to carry five rounds and have them when I needed them than have 11 rounds on the dresser at home when I needed them out somewhere.
Both barrels...
When I was a kid we had this old 12 gauge double barrel with rabbit ears. I cocked both ears and fired once...and both barrels went off at the same time.
Yes it hurt and yes, I dropped it like a bad habit. I still hunted with it but I was so gun shy after that, that I...
I just purchased a single trigger Stoeger Coach Gun for Cowboy Action Shooting.
I read the instruction manual and looked at the manufacturer's website and found no reference dry firing.
Additionally, this is a single trigger gun - so it has an inertial device that switches from one barrel...
