    Help choosing gunsmith screwdrivers

Thanks for the help, I must have misunderstood. I only saw your post that said the bits fit your j frame but not the k. Luckily I found a screwdriver in the house that actually fits perfectly.

    Help choosing gunsmith screwdrivers

I'm looking for a screwdriver for the side plate to remove the cylinder on my 442. For anyone that has the small kit for S&W revolvers, do the bits included fit this screw?

    442 range report

Well, I had my 2nd range trip with the 442 today. I was using mostly Winchester 130 gr ammo. I fired a few of the Fiocchi 158 gr I had left and 2 of the Federal low recoil hydrashoks. I really like this gun a lot more than the LCR. I posted in another thread somewhere about how the LCR grips...

    Revolver cleaning questions

The drill bit is a good idea. I will do that tomorrow. I certainly don't want to clean it too much either. With the 442 I will probably not shoot more than 50 rounds per session. Will it be too much to clean it every time if I don't fire that many rounds? I have no problem taking the time to...

    Revolver cleaning questions

wrs840-thanks for that link. I looked at it and will also look at the 2 links in there. I generally hold the gun so that my hand is between the barrel and the firing pin and the end of the brush will hit my hand but I will try your suggestion next time. Eldon, I understood what you were trying...

    Revolver cleaning questions

Thanks for the quick replies. I thought I was pretty careful when cleaning the 442 since it is my new baby but when cleaning it the first time, the rod did hit it a little because it made a metallic clink a few times. I just got the .22 last night so I haven't had the need to clean it yet. It is...

    Revolver cleaning questions

I've read some pros and cons on the boresnake. Some are that it is fine for a quick clean at the range but is not enough. Also, when it goes back and forth, aren't you putting dirty stuff back into the barrel? I mean, that is why you change patches, you don't keep putting the dirty one back in...

    642 Club Part Deux

Stainz, thanks, unfortunately I found that no one in my area even carries wadcutters. I went back to get that 1 box of Super match for $16 but it was a different salesperson and he said the price was $34.95 so I said forget it. I think i will end up sticking with the Walmart 130 gr, I'm sure it...

Anyone use Uncle Mike's deluxe range bag?

I'm looking at the Shooters Ridge compact range bag and the Uncle Mike's deluxe. I was able to see the Shooters Ridge in person and liked it but cannot find an Uncle Mike's locally to compare. Do the side pockets of the Uncle Mike's have padding or material like the inside of a gun rug? With the...

Does hearing protection lose effectiveness over time?

I only recently started going to the range again so those ear muffs hadn't been used in many years. The first time I went to the range a few weeks ago they seemed ok. Last week someone was firing something that sounded like a cannon and everytime I heard it I was startled. I'm going to be...

Does hearing protection lose effectiveness over time?

I do plan to start also using the ear plugs in addition to muffs but these are over 20 years old and I don't know what the db rating was. I've seen some new Peltor with 30db rating for around $20 so I will look around tomorrow. I know that the foam cushioning in my running shoes deteriorates...

Does hearing protection lose effectiveness over time?

I'm not sure if the headband part is bigger so that these don't fit that tightly anymore but mine don't seem to be as good anymore. Do they get worse over time? Going to a gun show tomorrow so I'm thinking maybe I should look for new ones.

Why not just turn on a light?

I notice that every time I watch CSI. I always think to myself, just turn on the lights. I could see if they were clearing the room but the BG is already gone and they are looking for evidence.

    642 Club Part Deux

Thanks. I did go on there but I wasn't sure what numbers I should be looking at. They both say controlled recoil so if I don't like the ones from Walmart, I'll grab the box of the others and try them.

    642 Club Part Deux

I think I'm a little recoil sensitive especially after my experience with the LCR. I found the Speer +P pretty uncomfortable but my hand was only slightly sore the next day and I probably could have shot a few more. I'm still trying to read thru posts from the 642 club part one. I've read on...
