    Currious about "buffalo rifles"

I don't think there was a 40-77. The ones I recall are the 40-50, 40-70(both BN and SS), 40-90 and even a 40-100. There is a 44-77 and a fine cartridge it was and is. That was an original chambering. The 45-70 is about the largest cartridge recommended for smokeless. A 45-90 is a big...

    Currious about "buffalo rifles"

You might like this one from C. Sharps. You can get it in about any caliber. http://csharpsarms.com/catalog-detail/31/Model-1874-Carbine-Hunter-s-Rifle.html

    Currious about "buffalo rifles"

Yep, two blood thinners is all it takes. However, like I mentioned, that skinny crescent butt plate was the main culprit. To give an idea of the size of that cartridge the .357 Magnum on left, 45 ACP and the 45-90 Sharps.

    Currious about "buffalo rifles"

I should have quit after five rounds but didn't want to drive 20 miles to shoot five rounds so I made it to about 10-12 and stopped. Two days later the bruises started showing up just on the shoulder then migrated to my right chest area, bicep and down the forearm. Most folks won't bruise that...

    Currious about "buffalo rifles"

The 45-70 is a piece of cake to shoot with a shotgun style butt plate. I had a Shiloh Sharps in 45-90 with a skinny, steel crescent shaped butt plate that beat me to death. I sent it back to them for a rebarrel to 40-70SS and will be much happier. My Browning BPCR in 45-70 is sweet to shoot...

    CheckMate Springs

Some time back...maybe even a year or so ago, 1911tuner talked about the best springs to put in the CheckMate magazines and I've forgotten over time which or what it was. Anyone remember or can point me to that thread? I couldn't find it.

What Springs for Tripp and CM?

Looking to buy several Tripp or CheckMate mags for the 1911 but I couldn't find a lot of info as to the springs they use...especially CM. As we all know, springs can make or break a magazine and I didn't know if they used their own or Wolff springs. Top Gun Supply sells CM mags but there's no...

    Tuner on Magazines

Some time back, maybe early last year or so, Tuner had a lengthy discussion about 1911 magazines, followers and types of mag lips. I can't find it anywhere after a search. Does anyone remember where it could be found? **UPDATE** I found it.

Range Time Not So Good with Commander

I fixed my problem a few days ago...traded the Commander for a 9mm HK USP. Now I can enjoy shooting without wondering when my next jam is going to happen. Enough was enough. I have two S&W 1911's that have their first time to cause a problem yet everyone bashes the external extractors. My 20+...

Range Time Not So Good with Commander

I actually have the ETM mag but haven't gotten around to trying it. I have tried the 7 and 8 round Tripp with varying success. Para you're right about the mags. Some pistols will feed any hollow point ammo you throw at it, like my 4506, while others are more picky-same with magazines. I have...

Range Time Not So Good with Commander

Nope-Feels pretty smooth to me. Of course there's that little step when it passes over the disconnector but it's very light. All in all, hand cycling it couldn't be much smoother. I ran four rounds through it with two different mags tonight, one hybrid CM and a Tripp mag and it fed and ejected...

Range Time Not So Good with Commander

Here's the thing. With the CM mags and stronger Wolff spring and EGW fps, the slide shouldn't be outrunning the magazine. To further aid feeding I use the flat dimpled follower as you've always recommended. I chose a 16# spring as well.So why would I have a magazine problem? Or a feeding...

Range Time Not So Good with Commander

Nope-If it did I sure couldn't' detect it. You mentioned earlier that I still had a magazine problem. I don't know what it could be since all those I use are CM's with the flat dimpled follower and Wolff 11# springs. The mags are both GI and Hybrid lips. I also have the EGW stop and put the...

Range Time Not So Good with Commander

Sorry, Tuner you've lost me. This pistol has a full length guide rod.

Range Time Not So Good with Commander

I had the slide and frame apart looking at the bushing raceway from the underneath side with barrel, guide rod and spring removed. I didn't seen any crack. I wasn't sure what you meant by using the screwdriver.
