    Need help quick.

I had another look at these two rifles. After hearing some people talk about the poor QC at Winchester, I was a little curious. If this particular Model 70 is any indication, I can see where they would get their concerns. There was a little slop in the bolt (about the same as the Ruger's)...

Yes, it is the CRF version. I laid them both down on the counter for a comparison, and they were both 22" barrels. I was kind of surprised the Winchester had such a slender barrel, but it is a Featherweight.

    Need help quick.

I'm looking for everyone's opinions while I run a search on previous posts. I'm going to buy a new rifle tomorrow, either a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight or a Ruger M77 MkII. Both of the rifles are .30-06, wood/blued, and $500. I am aware of the dreaded Ruger trigger and I know of a fine...

    No exit wound.

Just a quick update here. I took a shot Saturday morning at a doe. The shot was a perfect broadside at around 85-90 yds. She fell like a sack of rocks. When I went down to have a look, I was in awe. I was using the same bullets as last weekend, but I didn't go for a shoulder shot this time...

    No exit wound.

Thanks for the info, guys. I guess it's not that unusual for a bullet to not exit. I'm going out again this weekend, so we'll see how it goes. Dan

    No exit wound.

I took a shot on a partially quartered-on mid size Texas 8 pt. whitetail over the weekend. The bullet I used was a .30-06, 150 gr. Winchester Power-Point. The impact broke the front right shoulder and the deer hobbled about 20 feet before he dropped. When I went over to check him out, I was...

    Opening morning in Texas

Got mine. There were four hunters in our group. By Sunday morning, everyone had their 8 pt. and one got a nice doe, too. Runnels County is a 5 deer county, so I wanted to try and stretch it out a bit. I won't shoot any more bucks unless it is a mounter. The place is overrun with does, and...

Marlin 1894C - the solution to the indoor range problem?...

I love mine. I just picked one up today. I got it for $395 + tax NIB from Cabela's. They did a price match with Sportsman's Warehouse. I can't wait to shoot it! Dan

    H&R / NEF Single Shot - Thoughts?

Why not the .44 mag? I have a Handi in .44 mag, but I haven't had a chance to shoot it much. What is it that you don't like?

    First over and under.

Used Beretta 686 Onyx I have a used Beretta 686 Onyx (field grade) I'm looking to sell. 12 ga. with 26" barrels. I picked it up for a dove and quail gun, and I can hit pretty good with it. I also bought a new set of factory chokes for it. I have a few too many shotguns. I can go $450 if...

    Benelli: worth the price?

Funny thing... I did pretty good with the 870 and an 11-87 I had for a while. I wanted a good all-around gun and everyone said go with the Benelli. I just think I may have a pit in my stomach when my $1100 gun is lying in the bottom of a duck boat, hunters' feet trying not to stomp mud all...

    Benelli: worth the price?

Just wondering if the Benelli M2 is worth the expensive price tag. I bought one a few months ago, and I guess it's ok. I brought it out of the safe tonight and comparedit it to the feel of my 870. The Benelli is definitely a nicer gun, and an auto. But is it worth 5 times what I gave for my...

    FMJ harm?

Thanks! Thanks for the helpful information, guys. I will do a thorough combination of all the suggestions. Warm soapy water, then Windex, followed up by the usual gun cleaning routine. I appreciate the tips. Dan

    FMJ harm?

I was wondering if there is any harm in shooting military surplus ammo in a new hunting rifle. I picked up a few boxes of .30-06 at Cheaper Than Dirt today just for plinking and steel plates and stuff. Thanks. Dan

    Shotgun choices.

I picked up a Benelli M2 with the Comfortech stock in Max-4 camo. The price was $1059+tax. I love how this gun feels, points and swings. A guy at my work, when he asked what I bought, said he has a Sport II that kicks like a mule. I told him mine has the more recoil absorbant stock. "Aww...
