Going to Hospital on a college campus

Not a handgun, but I have had to leave my pocket knife with security to pass through the metal detectors at the Duke University Medical Center ER to visit a patient. He provided me a sealable envelope on which I printed and signed my name. On the way out I showed my ID, signed for it, and was...

Let's see those SHINYS...Stainless or Nickel only for our viewing pleasure

Thanks. I don't know the full history of this 1997 revolver, but it has spent at least the last eight years here in the Tar Heel state. I bought it from a shop in Raleigh in 2004, sold it to a friend in Charlotte three months later (to pay some unexpected medical expenses), and bought it back...

Let's see those SHINYS...Stainless or Nickel only for our viewing pleasure

SP101 with cocobolo Hogue monogrip, and Great Eastern Cutlery Northfield Ben Hogan knife. This was taken two days after the Northfield arrived back in April. It has since been used for a lot of food slicing, and the 1095 steel is now a long way from shiny.

Revolver Picture Thread of All Time

I have not posted anything here in several months. Took these Sunday to post on a knife forum. 1978 Case 6232 jack knife and 1985 Smith & Wesson 586

If you could have only one .38 / 357...

I would sure hate to part with either of my 4" S&Ws. The 686-4 has the best trigger of any handgun I have owned. The 586 is probably the most beautiful handgun I have ever owned, and the modified lug makes it less barrel heavy than the 686, so it balances better in my hand. But if pressed...

    Smith and Wesson model 586

I see now that I didn't read your original message as closely as I should, that it is for a friend and not you. My counsel remains the same. So, did your friend get it?

    Smith and Wesson model 586

I don't keep up on prices, so cannot comment on that, but I do love my 1985 model 586 (no dash). I hope I am never in a position where I have to part with it. If you can afford it, I would not hesitate to get it.

    S&W model 60 -vs- Ruger SP101 357 mag.

I think you can see by the replies here that it is a very individual decision, and one you probably cannot get wrong. Some choose the Ruger and love it. Some choose the S&W and love it. I was faced with the same choice seven or eight years ago. I chose the Ruger because I found a great deal on...

The 686 is just a bit too big for me...

Thank you Salmoneye, I happen to think so, too!

The 686 is just a bit too big for me...

I agree about the difference an uncovered backstrap grip can make. I did not care for the stock rubber grips that came on my 686-4. These banana grips by Kim Ahrends make it much more comfortable to shoot for my small hand.

Made a Mistake - Want to Reblue

I would recommned S&W factory reblue. Here is a thread on the S&W forum where I discussed the work they did on my 586. I am quite pleased with the work they did.

Have these two in the pockets of my cargo shorts today: cocobolo GEC Northfield 72 and chestnut bone Case Peanut.

Revolver Picture Thread of All Time

I have posted pictures of this 586 and 686 individually earlier in this thread. Here is a S&W/cocobolo theme shot I took this afternoon. I wish I had the skill and equipment to show how beautiful the cocobolo of the Ahrends grips and Northfield knife really are.

    A THR knife PICTURE thread?!?!

Here are a couple shots of the rosewood John Lloyd shadow I found, which became my 50th birthday gift from my wife and son.
