    Powder opinions wanted

Imr 4198 is marginal in the AR-15 gas system. Some uppers will work just fine with it, others will not. The mini-14 system is a different story and usually has no problems with 4198. H335, Win 478, 4895's and other slower powders than 4198 will work fine with the AR gas system. Irm 4198 does not...

    hodgdon H489 & Ramshot TAC

Yes and No. All of their data is using H4895 for a reason. Some powders respond well to low charge weights, others do not. Ball powders generally don't like to be loaded lite. They tend to have erratic ignition and poor accuracy at low charge weights. The loads listed will probably give you the...

    Graf & Sons Black Powder

Here what I ended up with when I shot it in a Ruger 77-50. I used a Harvester sabot and a Lee 300gr 45cal cast bullet and 120gr charge. Goex 2F = 1484 fps avg. Graf 2F = 1455 fps Pyro RS = 1470 fps Swiss 2F = 1724 fps Elef 2f = 1438 fps So performance wise not to far behind Goex...

    H&R / NEF Single Shot - Thoughts?

I bought one in 30-30 after a friend talked me into it. Well I was very happy with it shooting lead bullets, but never impressed with jacketed loads. Jacketed loads averaged about 2-3 inches at 100 yards. Tried different loads and once in a while got a good group, but could not repeat it. I...

    Ruger 77-50

Hey Woody, I have one and it's great! I bought the stainless w/laminated stock and could not be happier. The gun is very accurate and easy to clean. Also being able to install a scope on it is a plus. I have shot several pounds of of 777, pyrodex, and BP and it likes it all. The gun really...

    Mini-Mini-14?

I have shot one of the short mini-14. It appears to have greater accuracy, but that could be because of the better sight system on them. The receiver is marked L.E, and it's unknown if Ruger has them available for public sale. One of the rumors that I heard as to why Ruger makes them for just...

    Graf Black Powder

My order arrived and I got a chance to do some testing of the Graf powder. The first thing I did was to compare the volume vs. weight of Swiss, Goex, and Elephant against the Graf powder. I used a 100gr volume measure for all the measurements. Graf 2F= 102.6 avg. Swiss 2F= 106.6 avg...

    Goex Pinnacle 3f

I tried Pinnacle 3f in my Ruger 77/50 with 300gr sabots. I found that it took alot of powder to reproduce the same velocity as Goex. Grain for grain by weight, Pinnacle produced less velocity than Goex for twice the cost. I also found that Pinnacle will clump together sitting in the bottle...

    Graf Black Powder

Well I ordered some of the Graf 2F and 3F, along with some Swiss 2F. I will test it over a chrono and report my findings after it shows up. Hopefully it will be as good as Goex with regards to velocity and accuracy.

    Graf Black Powder

I too have been wondering if this BP is any good. I have not seen anything writen about this brand of BP sold under the Graf label. I see that no one has made a reply since the original post, hopefully someone has had time since then to post their results.

Anyone tried Accurate Data Powder 73?

Ok guys, data 73 seems like a good choice. Has anyone done any accuracy testing yet? I too heard from Powder Valley that this powder was similar to H335, just wondering if it has the accuracy potential of H335.
