Tips to shoot a lightweight rifle better

After years of screwing around with ultra light rifles with pencil barrels and all of the issues that come with them, I have sold off my Match Grade Arms built rifles and am back to rifles in the 7.5-8.5 lb range and have never looked back. They may work for some guys, but I suspect many have...

one do it all rifle caliber?

One do it all rifle worldwide hunting would have to be the 375. One do it all rifle for the USA would fall to the 30 06 although the .308 would be a very close second place and in many parts of the US probably the best choice. In my old age these are the ones I have settled down with.

    Rifle cartridge adapter experience

Finally got around to installing a 7.65 x 53 to 7.62 x 39 cartridge adapter in a 1981 Argentine Mauser. This rifle is in excellent condition and shoots very well with handloads and a Lyman 48 peep sight. Installed the adapter correctly, checked headspace which was spot on, and cycled the action...

30mm vs 1 inch tube for scope

One disadvantage of 30mm tubes, they do not make low or low enough scope rings which is a total PITA when trying to mount a low power straight tube scope. Scopes end up way higher than they should be. For big objective high power scopes this is not an issue.

Bonded .308 vs. .30-06 Armor Piercing Grizzly Defense

Agreed on skipping the long gun and taking a hand gun. The Ruger Alaskan in .454 Casull is a proven performer for Alaskan guides in close and in your face Grizzly and Brown bear attacks. It has reliably stopped bear attacks with power and has dropped them in their tracks with the end result...

    Remington 742

I have one, never a jam, scary accurate with 180 Nosler Ballistic Tips and 56 grains of IMR 4350. Never failed to stop a deer in its tracks. Very low round count since new a very long time ago. Probably less than 200 rounds through it. I have a good one. Probably due to the low round count...

    Best hunting scope from $1000-$2000

At that price range it becomes more difficult to distinguish view quality between scopes. You have to view them in varying conditions to know what is best for you and it may very well be a choice you would have never thought would be the winner and may not be as pricy. I had two rifles built...

    Low 30mm Ruger Scope rings

I wrote the Chairman of Ruger an email about this. If I get a reply I'll post it.

    Low 30mm Ruger Scope rings

The Ruger rings, while very good quality and work well, are the worst of the bunch in terms of heights. Not even close to being low enough for a 30mm straight tube scope. Lowest I have found are the Leopold fixed 30mm rings.

Looking For .308 Rifle Scope 3x9 in $200 Range

Very hard to find a good scope under $200, but they do exist. You will not find a better scope for the money than this deal: http://cameralandny.com/ Go to Minox Rifle Scope and look at the 3 x 9 x 40 demo unit for $139.00.

Advice on first Long Range Scope for Hunting

Best value in a scope in the range you are looking for is the Minox 2 x 10 x 40. If you shop you can get one for less than $400 and if you do your research you'll see they are a top shelf quality scope.

    Low 30mm Ruger Scope rings

I have done as much research as I can for a long time to find low 30mm scope rings for the Ruger 77 integral mounts. I really want QD rings about max .25" high to mount a straight tube scope on my rifle and keep it low. So far, the lowest 30mm or 1" Ruger rings I have found for Ruger are...

    Sighting in Ruger Guide Gun

The NECG Ruger scope base mount Peep definitely solves the problem as does any adjustable 3/8" dovetail adjustable folding leaf sight on the Ruger rear sight base. I am glad it had the issue and was forced to experiment. Like it much better this way and I like the Peep/Express sight double...

    Sighting in Ruger Guide Gun

I have sighted in the iron sights 3 different times on my Ruger Guide Gun in .375 Ruger. Very happy with the accuracy of the iron sights but there is no elevation adjustment and mine is consistently shooting 6" high at 50 yards, where it is supposed to be right on the money out of the box. I...

    Thoughts on Leupold VX-2 1-4x20?

I looked long and hard between the VX-2 1-4x20 and the Monarch 1x4. Everyone has their own preference but for my eyes the Monarch 1x4 hands down was the best of the two and I think the winner of the compact 1x4 scopes. I have several of these on rifles or setup for backup scopes. The German...
