    Who has been pepper sprayed?

I've been sprayed twice. Once as a boot augment to the MPs aboard Camp Pendleton, and once when I went through the Green Belt Instructor Course in Marine-Fu. Both times involved physical exertion (defending myself against assailants), and while they sucked, it was relatively benign. Having to do...

    Lexington, KY Gouge Please

I'm going to be working second shift for the first six to eight months, so my chances for weeknight matches are going to be slim. I'm likely going to have to stick to a few afternoon sojourns and weekend matches, at least for the time being. Oh, and dry firing. Lots and lots of dry firing...

sig p229 worh the price tag?

I have a P229 SAS in 9mm (even MORE expensive than the base model!) that I've been carrying and shooting USPSA production with for the last year. It's a great pistol, but the price is a bit high, compared to some of the other stuff that's out there. I own a couple other Sigs, and my 229 SAS...

    Lexington, KY Gouge Please

Well, here's a quick update for those that may have been interested... I visited Lexington last week for another round of interviews with the company, and the site management was apparently quite impressed, because they gave me an offer that same night at dinner. With my boss' (read: wife's)...

    Stippling around XD logos....

Nice work. Very clean lines around the edges and logo, too. Did you mask it, or was it freehand? I did my G22 a month or so ago, and it took a bit (along with three PMags for practice) to finally finish. With a bit of experience under the belt, though, my wife's G17 went a bit easier.

Ever talked with someone who has shot another human being? You should.

The most I've ever felt is a kind of regret that it came to that. But that's just the last bit of idealism, clinging on for dear life as it's eaten by my cynicism.

Ever talked with someone who has shot another human being? You should.

I have pulled the trigger, both literally, and in the sense of clearing close air support missions, multiple times. I spent slightly over 2 years total in Afghanistan, and have also been shot at, rocketed, mortared, had IEDs of various flavors go off nearby, and have seen the results firsthand...

    Rifle/carbine stance?

Although I had heard the massed fire reference before, I had neither heard, nor considered the classic offhand position as a derivative of archery. But I must say that it makes sense. That's also a good point about the possibility of an impact knocking you off balance or down, but again I...

    Rifle/carbine stance?

The explanation that I have heard for this is that it's carryover from the current trend in military training, which teaches people to square themselves to the target, in order to present the majority of the surface area of their body armor to the threat. At least, that's what they told me at...

    Argentine L1A1 Psuedo DMR

Last year, I offered to help with something, anything, and my offer was declined. So only the standard post-match teardown for me, I guess. That stage sucked. (Especially for me, considering my score...) Straight USPSA match next week. Maybe I'll shoot single stack.

    Argentine L1A1 Psuedo DMR

Thought it looked familiar. Can't remember if you were shooting or not, but if so, how'd it treat you? Absolute garbage on my end. Serves me right for not taking the time to reacquaint myself with my G22 after its long repair hiatus, though. More on topic, I've been bandying about getting a...

I didn't see you with this and an M1A last Saturday morning at B&R, did I?

    Heinlein and Librarians

I am a lifelong fan of science fiction as a genre, and particularly military science fiction. Note, it is definitely not the only genre of book I regularly read, but it is one of my favorites. I don't know the man's politics, but I'm surprised that no one mentioned "Armor" by John Steakley so...

    tactical vest plate carriers

While in Afghanistan in 2008, we were a testbed for different plate carriers for the Marine Corps. I've used a few of the ones out there, including scalable plate carriers and different 'full coverage' armor sets. Much as everyone else has said, what you need depends on the answer to the...

    Desert Eagle Owners

Had a guy in my squad at Saturday's match shooting one in .44. He was in the concealed division, and using an IWB holster a friend of mine (also at the match) made for him. Lots of FTE issues, even sopping wet, but the gun is an old one and needs some overhauling. Which is the reason why he...
