Here is a link to the GSSF courses of fire: http://www.gssfonline.com/courses.cfm These are straight forward accuracy and speed shooting matches, great for beginning or experienced competitors.

Even with a stiff spring in mine it doesn't manaully unload very smoothly. Maybe not as bad as yours sounds but still not easy.

The factory spring might need replacement, I used a wolff spring when mine started to get a little weak on the last shell or two.
