I vastly prefer beef over elk or venison (whitetail). Could be that I don't know how to cook it, but even when trimmed of all fat it still tastes gamey to me. I eat it because I killed it, so I tend to make a LOT of jerky and feed the burger raw to my dogs.
I only had moose roast once...
I keep my Officer's Model in the living area in condition 1, but my fullsize Kimber and the Mossberg in the bedroom are both kept with full magazines and empty chambers. I'm an active dreamer and I've been known to jump out of bed after dreaming there was a snake or spider under the covers...
I like the Tekan by G5. I've shot four deer with it, ranging from 11 to 37 yards...all four were passthroughs and the furthest one ran was 60 yards. Plus they shoot about two inches lower than my field points so I don't have to monkey too much with it before the season starts.
Can anyone recommend someone to de-horn a stainless Cold Officer's Model? Need to take the sharp edges off, relieve under the trigger guard, do a trigger job, and add night sights. Maybe checker the front strap too.
This is how I carried in the Nat'l Forest in CO. I now carry a S&W MountainLite instead of the .45. Never had any discomfort. Both the handgun and extra mags rode forward of where they normally would hang but nothing flopped around because it was held by the pack straps. I don't have much...
I'm a little surprised at some of the responses. For the folks suggesting that he ask first: do you do ask before you check in to a hotel? Go in a restaurant? Gas station? I'm assuming not so why is it different in this case?
Seems to me that if he's legal to carry in MT then there's no...
I was just visiting a friend in Sao Paulo Brazil, and the crime down there is unbelievable. They talk about crime down there like we talk about black flies here in Maine: just an irritating fact of life. She's been carjacked three times (technically twice I guess...the third time they just...
Actually Ken, I would encourage you to post your ideas on how to keep fit despite your health issues. Physical fitness is always going to be relative to the individual. A pro athlete who is in "terrible shape" for his profession may have more pound for pound strength and endurance than I've...
The black and white scenarios are easy: what do to about a super-bad-guy-predator trying to kill you with a deadly weapon? Clearly you respond with whatever force is necessary to survive including deadly force. In short, shoot ‘im!
What you’re thinking about is the grey area where real...
AND FWIW, I don't disagree with you at all on not getting involved in others disuptes. A man can verbally abuse a woman all he wants and, though I won't think much of him as a man, it's certainly not my place to get involved. BUT if I see a man smack a woman I'm going to make it stop. I don't...
Cousin Mike - I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on who's the aggressor. It's the guy who starts the fight, and that doesn't mean verbally. Standing five feet away and asking a question (or calling into question a man's intelligence, lineage, and sexual preferences for that matter)...
"if that situation turns ugly - if a gun is drawn, or a fistfight breaks out - who was wrong?" Um...that'd be whoever starts the fight. It doesn't matter if a person feels angry, disrespected, or insulted (no matter what their week at work was like) they're not justified in escalating to...
DesertShooter – Y’know you’re right…I never even tried to be conciliatory with the male. Maybe because I didn’t like his looks or that I was subconsciously expecting trouble, but I never even tried to win him over or negotiate. It might have gone different if, instead of bypassing him...
This ties into some of the “unarmed assailant” threads. I live about six miles down a dirt road in a very rural area. No cell phone service at all. On my way to the dump one morning I passed a car on the side of the road with a couple standing beside the car, clearly having some sort of...
As the owner of a badly ding'ed up Colt Officer's model, I would recommend strongly against the Clip Draw. The 1911 version just hangs there and relies on pressure from your belt/waistband against your body to hold it in place. (I've only used one on the 1911, so maybe other models actually...
