I always use glasses and plugs myself, but it`s not my place to be telling other shooters what to do.

I don`t intend to get into match shooting with this gun. There are none that are close by. Main reason I bought was that it was at a good price. Figure my gun collection is part of my retirement fund. Until then, I get to have lots of fun with them. :)

Not sure if this one was a CMP gun or not. I`ve heard that some of them were sold commercially.

Finding a stock might not be easy. It`s been quite a while since these were made. You could always have someone make one, but it wouldn`t be cheap.

I have heard of this happening, but the stories have never been 1st hand. So who knows. I have never shot this one with more than 40 grains of powder behind a round ball. And only a few times at that. The load it seems to favor for accuracy is 30 grains of 3F under a tightly patched round ball...

I have never tried it on deer. This gun wasn`t made for real heavy loads. I`ve never shot more than 40 grains of powder in it. And mostly I keep it down to 30 grains or less. I have taken a lot of deer with the Thompson Center Hawken rifle in 45 cal. With a 90 grain powder charge and a 220 grain...

It will outshoot any of my black powder revolvers easily.

The recoil of the 500 is not that hard to manage once you get used to it and know what to expect.

The 1st shots were Hornady 350 grain loads at about 1,900 feet per second. Pretty stiff loads, but the 440 grain Corbon feels like it has more recoil because of the bullet weight. As far as actual muzzle energy, the Hornady might have more. I`d have to look up the velocity of the Corbon load and...

I was more interested in getting their reactions to firing the gun. Couldn`t do that and show the target at the same time.

Depends on the gun. My Thompson Center Classic is very accurate, for a semi-auto. But it hates Wildcats.
