Astra Constable in 22LR

Wrong area. This is Rifle Country. Nice Constable though. Friend had a .380 that had an issue in that it would eat the pin holding the barrel in the frame, both the original solid and a replacement roll pin. Early permenant Lock tight around the outside of the chamber area as it was pulled back into the frame seemed to fix things with a second roll pin. Side by side with a PPKs the Walther had better trigger.

Now move us, Mods.

I like these kind of guns. I have an FEG AP22, which is a rimfire version of the PA-63, and very close to the PPK in size, appearance, and build. It's a darn solidly-built and sturdy shooter.

I like the last-shot slidelock on the Astra. Even the Walther doesn't have that!

I have an Astra Constable in 22 as well as two FEG AP22's. Both models are all steel with no pot metal. The FEG SMC 22 does have an aluminum alloy frame but a steel slide. Even the new Walther PPK/S 22 cannot say that!

I have had a .380 Constable for many years, and carried it as an off-duty when I was an LEO.

The first three rounds out of it went into 1 1/4" at 50 feet, which turned out to be 'normal' for that gun; wonderfully accurate.

I'd love to find a .22, but they're getting rare...

The Astra Constable is a nice little gun.I always wanted a real 22 Walther(not the current one) but they are hard to come by and are $$. I picked up the lil Astra for a fraction of the Walther price and it shoots great.

Here is mine.
I paid $85 for it NIB in 1980.
(A Walther PP in .22 was $425 at the time.)

They are great little guns.
Mine broke the firing pin the first week I owned it.
I made a replacement out of drill rod and it's been going strong ever since.

I did a trigger job on it, and it's as good or better DA or SA then any Walther PPK I have ever shot.

Grips are homemade too, out of a chunk of Rosewood a friend brought back from Vietnam in 1969.

I have the Astra in 380, 22lr, and 32acp. The 32 is my favorite of the three but all are, so far, accurate and reliable. Also have two Astra Cubs in 22 short that are fun to shoot as well as a Firecat in 25acp. The prices on Astra handguns go up and down like the stock market.

rc,

that is flat pretty! Thanks for sharing.

You know I might just have the Astra box from my buddy's gun out in the shop. Now I HAVE to go look. You folks have me out there searching for stuff more often than I go out to work on anything......

He loaned the gun to a medic who wanted his wife to have a home defense gun.......they moved....with the gun......
