I've never tried 800X, but if it's anything like 700X I understand. I weigh every charge since I load on a single stage, but on a progressive press it'd be a little more worrisome for me. 700X (or Green Dot) in 44spl is really nice, though.

Do you use 5.1gr of 700X with 230gr bullets or 200gr bullets for cycling and feeding benefits? Sounds like 200gr, but just clarifying.

Thanks Ron, that's correct - Hodgdon 700X. Actually, you nailed my starting load at 4.6gr. My max load I have planned is 5.0gr.

I've just started reloading for .45 Auto and am doing a lot a extrapolation and interpretation of powder, bullets and seating depths. Can you more experienced 45 loaders please give these loads a look and let me know if I'm out of bounds anywhere? I've come up with these numbers from 6-7 books...

I wouldn't go more than 22.8gr of 4227 with a magnum primer if the recommended load is 24gr. Always back off the load by 5% when substituting magnum primers. -MW
