My vote would go with the Peened or mushroomed nipple. After a few tries the hammer will push the nipple down far enough to fire. I would just replace it! If the problem still persists, look at the hammer to see if it strikes the nipple on center, and then the spring. Betcha it's the nipple:)

Pyrodex P will work great in your 50 cal. I use Goex 3f, and Pyro P in all my sidelocks. Remember when using 3f to use about 10 grains less than when using 2f. Because of the smaller grain you will get a faster burn. I use it in my 62 cal. smooth bore also. For hunting Elk with the 50, I...
