Axes, mauls and hatchets - not as weapons

I heat with wood, use about 4 cord/winter. If you're going to split wood by hand, and you are dealing with large rounds, the "Monster Maul" is good. A pipe handle that will never splinter or crack, and a wide, triangular head that doesn't get stuck in a round. Not sure if they still make them...

Thanks for thereplies, everyone. Appreciate the input. Sounds like I'd best develop a limp and carry a cane.

    OC in the Chicago Area?

I'll be in the Chicago area this summer, can anyone advise on the local laws for non-residents carrying OC? I'll be in Naperville most of the time, but will be on some excursions into Chicago also. Moderator's Note: He's asking about carrying Pepper Spray (OC=Oleoresin Capsicum).

Anyone heard of Whitney? The gun from the future?

I was part of a small group that gathered for a presentation by Rex Applegate many years ago. He talked about handguns that were designed with a proper grip/barrel angle for quick, accurate pointing. The Whitney was his best example.

    Current Production Charter Arms Quality

Does anyone have any experience with the quality of current production Charter Arms revolvers? I know someone who needs a decent .38 snubby, and is on a budget. I know of a good deal on a stainless Charter Arms, but they will need to do some training with it and I want to be comfortable with the...

    The Cane For Self Defense

In 1984 we went to the LA Olympics. I got a straight grained oak 2x2 and had a wood worker friend draw knife it down to a stout walking stick. I finished it with linseed oil, added a crutch tip, and practiced baton techniques. Carried it through the venues with no problems.

My Mosin-Nagant for US$89.95 at Big5 Sporting goods

Got an arsenal reconditioned M-N at Big 5 a couple of years ago. Darn things have a monotonous habit of going bang when you pull the trigger. I imagine there are still a few slinging lead in Afganistan.

    Buttstock shell holder in leather?

Milt Sparks Leather used to make a high quality model, called the "Cold Comfort" It laced onto the buttstock, with a leather gusset to keep the eyelets from scratching the stock. You could also punch a hole in the gusset to fit over a stud for a sling swivel. They do have a web site, you might...

After market Grips for my model 36 j frame

I use the Uncle Mike's Boot Grips on my M38, they are patterned after Craig Spegel's design, I prefer the checkering on the Boot Grips to the smooth finish on Spegel's wood versions.

Please help me with how to take a pistol on an airline flight...

I read a post in a gun forum, possibly THR, where the flyer went up to a Sky Cap, gave him a $20 tip, and told the Sky Cap he was going to check in with a firearm. The Sky Cap took him up to the ticket counter, to the side of the line, and confered with the ticket agent, staying with the...
