Look into large-diameter steel shot (BB, BBB, T, F) as a cheaper alternative to buckshot (unless you have a WalMart nearby, where they still sell 15 00buck rounds for under $10, at least around here).

Correct; CCU stands for carbine conversion unit, using a pistol frame & trigger/hammer group and magazine fitting into the action and barrel for a carbine. Pretty darn slick and fills the inexplicable void in affordable .45acp carbines. Perhaps Ruger and HiPoint will come around someday...

The good people at Mech Tech passed on to me that they will be offering .45acp Springfiled XD-compatible carbine conversion units by the end of the year. I'm guessing for 9mm and .40 as well, but I don't know of for sure.

Not having trouble with the mags really, which is surprising. I do know how to shoot, and with sandbags and a scope at 50yds a rifle that doesn't shoot the way rc's supposedly does is not an accurate firearm. I was reminded of a comment made here about the 10/22 I'd read before: 'it shoots...
